On the Set: 'Rockville, CA'
The latest show from 'The O.C.,' 'Chuck' and 'Gossip Girl' creator Josh Schwartz won't be showing up on your TV -- it'll be playing right here on the Interwebs. TheWB.com's 'Rockville, CA' (premieres Tues., March 17) revolves entirely around one of the things Schwartz's hit shows are known best for: killer soundtracks. Taking place at fictitious Club Rockville, the web series' cast consists of a bevy of easy-on-the-eyes twenty-somethings, including the club owners, their friends and, of course, the music fans.
AOL TV hit the set at real-life venue the Echoplex in L.A. to chat with the stars and Schwartz's music guru, Alexandra Patsavas. Then, just like that, we were treated to an awesome live performance by the episode's featured band, Travis. It's all in a day's work, folks ... -- By Maggie Furlong

Art Imitating Life
"We actually shot in a local club [in L.A.] called the Echoplex, owned by a local rock promoter, Mitchell Frank, and we used their sound system," says Patsavas. "The Club Rockville you see is a real live club. It put a lot of extra stress on the production because everything had to come down at night for whatever show to go on. In fact, some of [the performers] had a gig in the morning at 'Rockville, CA,' and had a gig later that night upstairs at the Echo."

Creators' Pet
Looks like Schwartz found his new go-to guy in star Ryan Hansen. Since playing Chambers (aka "The Douche") in 'Rockville,' he's been cast in Schwartz's 'Gossip Girl' spinoff/prequel, 'Lily,' as one of Serena's mom's old pals from L.A. Fans who remember Hansen as Dick Casablancas on 'Veronica Mars' can also catch him on creator Rob Thomas' new show 'Party Down' (premieres March 20, 10:30 PM ET, on Starz).

All Web Videos Are Not Created Equal
"Alex and I called in a lot of favors from people that we've worked with," Schwartz admits. "The guy who cast the 'Gossip Girl' pilot was the casting director on this, [and] I am incredibly proud that the production of the show looks as good as a television series. Our director, Norman Buckley, worked very, very hard to make sure that this thing didn't feel like a YouTube video."

The Concept
The show is about musicians and the people who love them, creator Josh Schwartz dishes, but according to him, it's not just a bunch of girls going googly-eyed over sexy singers: "If you've seen any of my other work, you know the geek always ends up getting the girl, and the rock star ends up without them."
