Grey's Anatomy actor updates

by Michael Pascua, posted Mar 22nd 2009 10:28AM
There a few news bites from several of the Grey's Anatomy actors pre-scoured for your convenience. It's kind of odd reading about these people outside of their characters, but it's true: they are real people. We got some news from Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson, T.R. Knight, and more:

Chandra Wilson to join cast of Chicago - This one's a little old, but noteworthy. Chandra Wilson, better known as Miranda Bailey, will be playing Matron Mama Morton in the musical Chicago starting June 8th and ending July 5, 2009. It's great seeing Wilson play another really strong character; I've never heard her singing chops, but she has a background in musicals, so I'm not doubting it.

More after the jump.

T.R. Knight in three car accident – According to TMZ, Knight was in an accident on Hollywood Blvd. last Thursday. He was not injured, but a man and woman were taken to the hospital. I wonder if Knight channeled his inner medical doctor? I hope he made it home to watch Grey's Anatomy.

Anyone have $4 Million to spare? - Patrick Dempsey has listed his home in Bel-Air for $3,595,000. Apparently it has four bedrooms, but it has five and a half bathrooms. I find that proportion to be a little odd, but I'm assuming the house is as dreamy as Dempsey is.

Sharon Lawrence is going to guest star on Grey's
- She is apparently coming on as Izzie's mother. That creates two assumptions: 1) Izzie lives long enough for her mother to show up and 2) Izzie dies and her mother has to show up to identify her. I'm assuming it's the former, since Heigl is probably going to stay for a while.

I saw Chandra Wilson in the supporting cast of "Caroline, Or Change," and she was wonderful. By the time I got to "Avenue Q," though -- and anyone who didn't see it Off-Broadway -- she was no longer playing Gary Coleman.

Chandra Wilson can sing... She got her start singing in musicals for Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, Texas. I have a friend who worked with her in a couple shows there and he remembers has having a lovely voice and a wonderful personality.

We've heard Wilson sing on grey's anatomy several times. She's got a great voice (assuming it was really her singing - it didn't seem like a lipsynch and if she's going to be in a broadway play then it's probably safe to assume it was really her own voice). If i recall correctly, she sang a song at the end of an episode somewhat recently... the end of last season or very early in this season, don't remember exactly. She has also sang songs to her baby. Obviously they're not drawn out musical numbers... but she definitely has a good voice, and she'd be great in that role in Chicago.

That brings up a good question - how long do you all think it will be before Grey's Anatomy has an "all musical" episode? Probably during a sweeps week. Scrubs did it a few years ago ("My Musical" - which is one of my favorite episodes). GA is such a gimmicky show that I figure they'd do it within the next 2 to 3 seasons - regardless of whether the whole cast can sing (most people can talk-sing which is good enough for TV).
