Hell freezes over: Letterman gets married

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 23rd 2009 10:02PM
LettermanI just checked the Weather Channel and it does indeed look like hell has frozen over.

After many years of dating his girlfriend Regina, not to mention having a baby boy with her, Late Show host David Letterman will reveal on tonight's show that he got married to his longtime girlfriend Regina last Thursday in a courthouse in Montana.

This is big for Letterman. He was married once before but it didn't go well, and he has always said that he made a mistake getting married (often apologizing to the woman he used to be married to) and that he didn't want to ruin the good thing he had going with his girlfriend. Many guests, especially Julia Roberts, have made jokes with Letterman, wondering when he was going to make his girlfriend his wife. Looks like getting older puts these things into your mind. First the child, now the marriage. Hopefully retirement won't be in the near future.

Something tells me that someone, somewhere has just lost a big bet.

Congrats to David and Regina. I can understand why David was reluctant to marry again. Marriage is not for everyone. There is the problem of wanting to be independent and being who you really are, a problem for someone not being affectionate as you would like, or too clingy, or talk too much about unpleasant things .like illness, not being tactful around your friends and family, and depending on you to fill all their needs, and to make them happy. YOU are the one to make yourself happy. I think Dave and Regina knew each other well enough to feel comfortable with each other, and I am happy for them. Some of us would never marry again. Sometimes I am lonely, but the worst kind of lonely is to be married and still be lonely. . Thank you, Dave, for many years of entertainment and may you have many happy years together..

Of course President Obama appearing on long time happily married Jay Leno's show had nothing to do with Dave's state of unmarried fatherhood. Nah, not in the Dark Ages of the 21st century A.D.

Subsequent to Mr. Letterman's snide remarks regarding the Palin daughter being "knocked up", he goes and marries one. Very classy.

Marries one what? A Palin daughter? I know Bristol is single now, but she's a little young for him. Anyway, congrats to the happy couple!

This is great news! BUT, something tells me that the Tabloids are gonna be sending their photographers to Montana in an effort to ruin it.....I can see it now..."Regina Throws Dave Out!" or "Dave Worries Harry is Gay!"

Congradulations to Mr. and Mrs. David Letterman and to thier little boy too. Hey I wonder if he'll have a second child, maybe in another 8 years. The guy seems happier in his 60's then he probobly has been his whole life.
