American Idol: Top 10 perform

Anoop DesaiYou guys, Paula is in a tutu. I repeat: Paula Abdul is wearing a tutu, and she and Ryan are flirting and may be going out after the show. Things are weird on Idol tonight. Paula is telling the contestants to "challenge their artistic integrity," but I don't think that's what she actually wants them to do.

It's Motown week, and I'm scared. Motown has so many songs that these people should never touch, so it's really just setting them up for failure. For the most part, however, they do a pretty good job with it. But I wasn't wrong about things getting weird: Toward the end of the episode, Simon flat out takes a Sharpie and draws a mustache on Paula's face.

As another bonus for me, I'm watching this with a friend who hasn't seen a single episode this season, so I get to put my preconceived notions against her fresh eyes.

Matt Giraud - "Let's Get it On"

Okay, first off, this is a terrible song choice. This has been done at every karaoke bar in the country, and it's nearly impossible to not come off as a parody when you sing this song. He does an admirable job with it, but as my friend says, "I don't like his junk staring at me." He ditches the piano and dances awkwardly at us. Simon thinks his dancing is corny, but the judges love his performance and Simon even calls him a front-runner.

Kris Allen - "How Sweet It Is"
This is another problematic song for me: It's been in so many romantic comedies and commercials that it's lost all meaning and has almost become a jingle. However, he does a great job with it. Kris has always been one of my favorites, and you can tell he's having a great time. The judges love him, as well.

Scott MacIntyre - "You Can't Hurry Love"
I adore this song, and I love that he's trying something new with it, but when he started out all slow, I kind of hated it. But once he sped up, I liked it. He has kind of a James Taylor-like tone to his voice, although I wouldn't say he sounds similar. In any case, I thought he did a good job, and I liked this performance more than I've like his last few. The judges, however, are split on his performance.

Megan Joy Corkrey - "For Once in My Life"
Okay, I've always loved Megan Joy's voice, but I really don't think she knows what to do with it. Her enunciation is weird, and she just kind of comes off as a little drunk. I don't exactly know why, but I feel like if Lucille Bluth were to knock back a few martinis and sing karaoke, it would be a lot like this performance. The judges pretty much savage her, as well.

Anoop Desai - "Ooh, Baby Baby"
Dude. This is a hard song to do, so pulling this off would be pretty impressive. It's kind of a slow song, so it's not a typically flashy American Idol song. My friend said that it was beautiful and she may be pregnant just from listening to it. The judges didn't tell him he knocked it out of the park, but their comments were mostly positive. I love him.

Michael Sarver - "Ain't Too Proud To Beg"
I just find this exhausting. He's trying way too hard, and I'm not impressed. As my friend says, "This is not a song you smile through." She's right; he's not paying attention to the song or the lyrics in any way. He's just "performing," and I find it annoying. The judges agree with me, and are pretty negative across the board.

Lil Rounds - "Heatwave"

Based on her clip from Detroit, I was worried about this. Lil Rounds goes over the top really easily, and I was afraid that's what she was going to do tonight. However, her performance was energetic and fun. There were a couple of bad notes, but overall, she did a pretty good job with it.

Adam Lambert - "Tracks of My Tears"
I'm not really clear as to why he dressed up like K.D. Lang, and some of his faces during this song were downright terrifying. The song itself wasn't my cup of tea, but I do think what he did with it was interesting. Kara has six words for him: "one of the best performances of the night." I'm pretty sure that is more than six. The point is, the judges love it.

Danny Gokey - "Get Ready"
I still think of this song as the CBS promo song, so it's kind of difficult for me. He does his trademark Danny Gokey over-singing, but overall, it's a fun, high-energy performance. Simon doesn't like it, but the rest of the judges are pretty much on board.

Allison Iraheta - "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"
I'm terrified by her outfit, but her performance is pretty strong. She's one of the contestants that's improving every week. She's becoming more confident, and it really shows in her singing. However, I don't think she enunciated as well as she could have, and a lot of her words ran together. The judges love it, and Kara instructs all of you to vote for her.

Kris and Anoop have always been two of my favorites, so I was thrilled to see them do so well tonight. Who did you like best? And more importantly, who do you think should go home? Personally, I think Michael Sarver has overstayed his welcome, and Megan Joy is getting mighty close.

Who should go home this week?
Matt Giraud14 (0.6%)
Kris Allen19 (0.9%)
Scott MacIntyre255 (11.5%)
Megan Joy Corkrey816 (36.7%)
Anoop Desai44 (2.0%)
Michael Sarver900 (40.5%)
Lil Rounds38 (1.7%)
Adam Lambert63 (2.8%)
Danny Gokey29 (1.3%)
Allison Iraheta44 (2.0%)

Danny gokey and lil rounds and allison are all unoriginal and bland, Ill be the first to say it fuck you all. why do they get so much praise?????? every single song they sing no matter what the song is sounds EXACTLY the same as the song they sang last week, lil cant do low notes at all only big bellowing long notes it gets really really old, As for danny turn on the fucking radio he sounds like EVERY "alternative" rock band thats out today and they all sound the same papa roch is the same asthree days grace seether is the same as finger eleven they all sound the same they ALL sound like danny and we all know damn well he will make an album just like theirs, sure his wife is dead that sucks but that doesnt make him one of the best singers in the competition he's just another cook/daughtry knockoff, and lastly, Allison, seriously why does everyone love her so much? she sings everything THE SAME EXACT WAY. I dont get why these three get so much praise, people need to get over themselves.. jesus christ america are we that daft??

Adam deserves the praise he gets, he is original, he can sing anything thrown at him. who the hell said "adam hasnt proved himself yet" are you kidding me????? you mustve missed michael jackson week he was FLAWLESS. and no im not an adam fangirl.

Matt is probaly the most underrated singer this season he's wayyyyy more talented than lil, scott, allison and anoop, but he somehow got into the bottom 2??? this show isnt a talent contest its a popularity contest to vote for whoever has the saddest story or sounds the most cliche

I was thinking of a way to mess with the Judge's Save feature in AI. See there are obvious judges favourites: Lil Rounds, Danny Gokey, and Adam Lambert.

If say we were to push any of these individuals into elimination, they would be probably saved and thus removing that stupid rule!!

I. Am. Not. In. Love. With. Allison. I think she ruined Patty Loveless on country week by infusing rock, but no soul. I think she repeated that again this week, by rocking fast, but again, no soul. She's blameless; she is sixteen, after all; hasn't had time to grow life experiences she can infuse into the songs (that's why Taylor Swift acts like she does; not the sixteen part, mind you). Anyways, the judges should get over it.
Last night, really loved Adam and Anoop. Most others were mediocre comparably.

Adam Lambert is a professional in musical theatre. He has done professional shows like Wicked. Sure he has talent but he is already a professional. I would go see him perform as part of a musical but I wouldn't buy his CD's. He needs to be performing to make it work.

The person with the most potential is Allison. She is a natural, a Pat Benetar rocker type. And for 16-years old, she has amazing poise. Probably too young to win but she has a tremendous future.

Lil rounds blew it, she had to nail this genre and she didn't.

To 'out of mind' Adam Lovers,
There is still a long way to go. He is far from proving anything yet. The judges have to make those comments in order for people to believe this show can actually get star quality people. They can't admit how difficult it is for them to actually find people that can become real singing artists. 7 seasons, who can you really remember that were star quality; Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry....

At the end of the day, though, this is an entertainment show. It isn't REALLY about finding a star, it's about selling advertising space so that Fox can make REAL programs. Even if they do cancel them far and away too early...

Your polls tell us much more about the probable result when you ask the question the way Idol does. Asking us who we would vote down tells us nothing about who is likely to go home for not getting enough up votes.

It's crazy what some are saying about Adam. This is not only about singing, it's also about performance. If it was just about singing, there would have been different winners in each season so far, except last season. Adam is extremely talented and has brought "fresh air" to the program this year. My favorite is still Kris...his pitch is unbelievable and he knows how to tell the story thru the song. Megan or Michael have GOT TO GO...they are just not on par with the rest of this group.

Adam wore the suit in honor of Motown. duh. Just look at all the original singers, never saw the men in anything other than suits until the Jackson 5 came along.

Megan sounds like Adele. I want to hear her sing 'Chasing Pavements' as I think you could close your eyes and think you're hearing the original.

My favourites were Matt, Anoop and Kris but my outstandings were Allison and Adam. I might stick my neck on the line now and say those two are my finalists with Kris in 3rd.

The judges really haven't done Danny and Lil any favours in previous rounds. Both of them have received out of the ordinary praise and both have not upped their game whereas Anoop and Matt have both gone away and thought carefully about both performance and song choice and both of them have improved 10 fold. From the auditions I would have said Danny and Lil were top 4 material and even put Danny in the last 2 with Adam but I am wondering now. I really am.

All that said, I believe this season is the best season since Season 5.
