Can someone tell me what the new Quiznos ad is all about? - VIDEO

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 27th 2009 1:24PM
Quiznos"Put it in me Scott..."

No, that's not dialogue from a new porn movie. Well, actually, maybe it is. The new Quizno's commercial is probably the closest we'll get to a gay porn flick in a mainstream sub shop ad.

Have you seen the commercial (after the jump)? It's for their new "Toasty Torpedo" subs, and if you think it's only a coincidence that they're shaped like long male sex organs, think again. The talking oven, which sounds a little like the gay brother of the HAL Computer from 2001, talks to Quizno's worker Scott about how they "both enjoyed" whatever they did before the commercial started (Scott burned himself...somehow), and now he wants Scott to put his toasty torpedo in him. Pay attention to the part where the oven says "we both enjoyed that." Scott looks down at his crotch. The hell?

It's really hard to figure out what audience they're going for. I guess we should all be grateful that there's no mention of "mayonnaise" in the ad.

Dear God, Morons. I hate the commercial, but what I hate more is when idiots misspell in their rants. "Disgusting" is a word. "Discusting" is not. A "Phallus" is a penis. "Phallic" is not a noun, genius. It is an adjective, which, if you missed or forgot third grade, is a word used to describe a noun, therefore something can BE phallic, but it cannot be A PHALLIC. It can be a PHALLUS. Sign off the blog, turn off the TV and finish high school...or get your GED. I bet you are allowed to vote, which is frightening. OK, bye.

Whether it's "repulsive" or "funny" is all in your mind. "Nothing is ever good or bad but thinking makes it so." --Shakespeare

Really creepy is the periscope. Right when the oven says, "We both enjoyed that", a tiny periscope appears for about a quarter of a second. It barely looks like anything in real time, but if you freeze it at the sixth second in, you can clearly see a submarine perescope.

I found this thread after Googling Scott and Quizno's. I wanted to find out Scott's real name and bio. He's really hot. He can serve me one of those torpedos anytime. And I think I'll have a Quizno's torpedo for lunch tomorrow, Zipit.

First of all, QUIZNO'S did not post this piece. You are replying to a piece posted for comment by a gentleman named Bob Sassone who may quite possibly be an excellent cook/sandwich maker for all any of us know. That is unless you have ACTUALLY eaten his cuisine and found it to be less than appetizing, in which case it is in poor taste for you to publicly chastise him.

Secondly, a majority of the comments that are most virulently directed at the perceived overt sexuality in the commercial seem to be mainly addressed towards the "gayness" of it all. If you simply despise homosexuals then why not have the "intestinal fortitude" to just say so upfront.

Third, I am comfortable saying I don't believe most adolescents 11 years old and younger have any perception of sexual content in this ad or for any tv fare offered up amongst the 79 or so channels I receive which are pretty much basic packages served up to people all across the country. ( Sorry, overly long sentences expressed here)! Kids of this age group are more intuned to your basic everyday "potty humor" as this type humor is broadly expressed in regular tv at all times of the day. "Fart" jokes have and will forever be popular! (Sorry if my language offends anybody's delicate sensibilities)!

Finally, I tend to fall in line with "THE GREAT SANDWICH MAKER" who made great sense of it all. It is, after all, merely an attempt at humor that will hopefully gain attention for a new sandwich. As for the gay inuendo, I can only applaud their efforts towards including a group of people, who have long been ignored, into mainstream advertising.

I stumbled upon this site while searching for a coupon. I cannot comprehend the obvious hatred which clearly drives so many people to post here. True, some post's only mention the sexuality, not delving into anything more than that. But for those others.....GOLLY! Isn't there a church in Kansas for you folks to align your views with?

I'm with you, Cindy. This was easily the most offensive commercial I have ever seen. I have 3 little kids, and I'm scared to death this commercial will come on while they are watching. It is appalling to me that this commercial was allowed to be shown on TV. I will never be able to walk into a Quizno's again.

Kelly I agree with you. This offensive commercial is a reference to gay tendencies which I find vulgar and to be quite frank...lewd. Hide your children from this rubbish and never take them into that gay bar they call Quiznos ever again! -Rigoberto Tetilla Fuentes

I really wish some people would see the humor for what it is, and not represent it as purely "gay". Not one person has mentioned the fact that "Scott" is looking down at what appears to be another sub sandwich(behind the vine ripened tomatoes) on the counter when he says "That burned" yet everybody seems to notice that since he is standing upright when he looks down, he must be looking at his genitals, although there is no other indication that is what he is looking at. Now, what we have is a dual meaning in the humor presented, which I find it hilarious that more people notice the "gay" innuendo than the straightforward explanation that he is looking at a torpedo that may have been too toasty for his liking and that to "put it in" again, would only burn it further.

Keep up the great work Bob Sassone-of searching out all that is gay in media and you too could be a Jerry Falwell!
