What will TV do without Hannah Montana?
If you ask me, it's a little early to throw in the towel completely on television at sixteen years old, Miley. Look how well that worked out for David Caruso when he told NYPD Blue to kiss his ass so he could be the next big Hollywood movie star? Granted, Miley Cyrus' level of celebrity is on a completely different plane than Lt. Horatio Caine; I don't recall Caruso on the cover of Tiger Beat every week back in the day.Nevertheless, Miley Cyrus indicated that she would be done with television after Hannah Montana wraps its run on the Disney Channel. She's already said she doesn't want to do Hannah Montana in film any more either. So it looks like Cyrus will be looking to follow the path that Lizzy McGuire AKA Hilary Duff did when she walked away from the Mouse.
Considering everything she has her hands in, Cyrus should be in a good position to transition through those teenage years into young adulthood. She's kept her image fairly squeaky-clean, Asian eyes and naughty cell phone pics notwithstanding, and her tweener following is huge.
So if Miley can survive without Disney and television, what will Disney and television do without her? Is The Suite LIfe poised to be their next big thing? That would put Brenda Song (London Tipton) in the Disney heiress role but she's already twenty-one years old! That's practically ancient by Disney standards. So maybe the weight will fall on another young actress' shoulders; perhaps 16-year old Demi Lovato on the new Sonny With a Chance. Or Wizards of Waverly Place? Or the Jonas Brothers, who have a new show starting this year as well (J.O.N.A.S.).
Only the Jonas Brothers have come close to rivaling Hannah Montana's success as a marketing bonanza, and she's still got them beat by millions and millions of dollars I'm sure. I thing the solution might be for Disney to just renew Hannah Montana again and again until something else blows up like that.
What do you think? Geriatric Billy Ray still managing a forty-something year old Hannah Montana. Of course since this is Disney, she'll also be married to Prince Charming and have a wonderful relationship sleeping in separate beds with adopted children. Then their daughter, Joanna Montana can continue the franchise while Miley Cyrus finally leaves to star in the next CSI spin-off: CSI: Undercover. She's already got the wig.
