Dancing with the Stars: Week 5 Results
(S08E09) I was jarred by the beginning of the show. I flip the channels and realize that right after the credits, the show started off with Lil Kim and Derek's performance. Wait, what? Gilles and Cheryl scored better by three points. No matter.I'll admit that I skipped the performance in favor of Adam Lambert. His performance on American Idol was more interesting than five minutes of a dance I saw before. In the recap, we learned that last night Melissa ripped her dress, which is one of the reasons why she was thrown off.

Etta James – At Last – Maks & Karina perform. I thought at first that Etta was singing in a rocker, but luckily her vocals are all that are important. Let's just say that she's gotten older. On the flip side, it's romantic watching an actual couple dance together. They understand each other, and I'm pretty sure that Maks doesn't mind Karina's bum in her face.
We're given that unnecessary fluff video. This week is about adjustment. Before her time on the show, Melissa had a normal PowerPoint presentation to worry about. David's show was just canned; what better reason do you have to join another show? Steve-O had just emerged from rehab. There's some behind the scenes. Melissa shows the evolution of how they cover her freckles and hair for the Lindy Hop outfit. She goes from normal girl, to star.
Macy's Stars of Dance – Le Rêve – Somehow men in dresses just got a little sexier. Now that shows self-confidence, unlike Make Me a Supermodel's contestants. Along with the men in the shredded dresses, a very interesting gymnastics group also performs in the back. They are like Blue Man Group meets Cirque du Soleil. I'm confused by the couples dancing, I guess watching the actual show would put all the pieces together.
Demi Lovato – La La Land – Benji Schwimmer & Torri Smith perform to the song. Demi sings better than Miley Cyrus, but when she let out a shrill scream, I cringed. Benji is exciting to watch even if he is a camera whore. Does he grin like that in professional dance competitions? The whole pink outfit thing didn't help. They were too punk-rock for the dance floor.
After the long wait, our bottom two are Lawrence & Edyta and David & Kym. I guess that Steve-O and Ty got a lot of Holly & the Woz's support group. That or the show finally tapped the demographic of fans of robot cowboys and mimes.
David & Kym – Viennese Waltz – While David attempted to look smoother this time around, he still had that disturbing look on his face. Len's dog peeing kick remained and still looked unnecessary, I would have automatically given him a point if they thought of something else. I also didn't notice how stupid David's arm swings were at the end of the dance.
Len enjoyed it last night and enjoyed it again. He liked the expression and focus. It was a little bit better (but not a point better). Bruno appreciates how he worked better under pressure. There was an edge that was missing last night. Carrie Ann thought some of the turns were strange, but she felt the harmony. Score: 24 (8, 8, 8). Previous Score: 22
Lawrence & Edyta – Paso Doble – Lawrence is still really stiff in the beginning and now I have to attest it to the Paso. Edyta continues to work the floor as Lawrence walks around. The floor throw seems awkward, but the way Edyta posed it must have been the way it was supposed to be.
Bruno thinks that Lawrence has a lot of hidden potential. He has to combine the music with the trust of his partner. He suggests going for the kill. Carrie Ann reiterates the difficulty of the music. She loves the power. Len wrote down "difficult music" on his card and saw an improvement. Score: 20 (6, 7, 7) Previous Score: 20
After the votes were tabulated, the couple going home was David & Kym. I guess improving scores really doesn't matter. After Denise gained several points and got sent home, it really falls on the audience's votes.
Next week, Rumba and Jive. I just hope that Ty gets less robotic, Lil Kim loses the porn face of aggression, and Samantha doesn't make any more evil laughs. It's not becoming.
