Prison Break's final two hours might not air on FOX

Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller
As if we haven't heard enough bad news about this show. Turns out that the final two hours of everyone's favorite guilty pleasure, Prison Break, might not even air on FOX. The over-the-top drama, which was recently canceled, returns this Friday ("The Mother Lode", 9PM ET on FOX) to air the first of its final six episodes. All of those episodes will air on FOX.

Confused? Keep reading.

As many have heard, Prison Break EP Matt Olmstead and his creative team went above and beyond what was required of them. After the series finale (scheduled to air on May 15th), Olmstead's crew made a finaler(?) series finale, in the form of a standalone two hour telepic that may or may not be related to that woman's prison spin-off that's long been rumored (which isn't happening ... yet).

TV Guide's Matt Mitovich is now reporting that FOX "neither ordered nor scheduled" the telepic (a.k.a. episodes S04E23 and S04E24). In fact, he says, it's gonna be a straight to DVD release. TVShowsOnDVD.com seems to support this claim saying that the tentatively titled Prison Break: The Final Break will be released on July 21st. Hopefully FOX goes ahead and schedules it anyway.

So what does everyone think about this news? Personally, I'm a fan of this show, but here's how I see it - you don't watch Prison Break, you put up with Prison Break. Based on that reasoning alone, I say FOX owes us one. Besides, what could they possibly air instead?

I absolutely love Prison Break. I own all 4 seasons on DVD. At Christmas time my family watched a marrathon of PB that lasted for days. It was great with all of the extras, interviews and behind the scenes. Anyway, I'm confused. Season 4 ended with Michael dying. I cried and thought about it for days. That ending really bothered me. When the show first came out (season 1) they said that the show was being written with an ending and there would be only 4 seasons. Inside the DVD of Season 4 was a flyer advertising "the Final Break". Is this an alternate ending or the real ending? Also at the end of season 4 they jumped ahead 4 years. Sooooo... is "The Final Break" all the stuff that happend in those 4 years? I hope they explain it. In the mean time I'm gonna pre-order the Final Break. Valerie PB Fan

just like TV ....

finally there was a show actually worth watching on TV since like seinfeld .....

( no , no other crap on TV since has been watcheable since then )

then prison break with the most amazing writing team made a kick ass show. no not because its about prison break because the WRITING was the best ive seen in a such a long time ...

yet nobody really understands anything that goes on in TV and just want to be entertained by mindless crap like American Idol or whatever you people watch in your "reality " world. what a joke.

anyway FoX made their biggest mistake just cancelling the show .. and for what.. another 10 years of crappy shows ....

I agree it was getting out of hand with pscilla at the end.. but you know with the strike and everything, it kinda disrupted the episodes and they had to scramble at some points ..

but i think they really tried hard to make the last 4 episodes so good to leave you feeling awesome.. and fox who doesnt care just said no

you know ratings dont mean a show is good, it means theres tons of people out there who dont know good TV, and that is to be expected ..

fox should know better .. people will watch whatever you put on TV for them ... they did a poor job advertising prison break coming back to finish the season.. i didnt even know it was coming back on until i saw a commercial the day before from another global station

oh well .. atleast we can still download it and watch it or wait for DVD ..

stupid TV people ..

I say wait for DVD for all of it. I'm tired of FOX and all the other networks jerking us around with the back-half of seasons - forcing us to sit through long hiatuses (hiatusi?) :D

I'm not a fan of the show but once again Fox is screwing their viewers. Fox just cares about Idol and every other show be damned.

I don't necessarily blame FOX for what's going on with Prison Break and Dollhouse. (And I do think FOX sucks.)

What it looks like is that FOX ordered a set number of episodes to air. But the production arm (Fox Television) has granted the productions of both series the money and other means to do an extra episode to include on the DVD box set releases. (And these extra episodes will probably air in countries outside the U.S..)

This is good for fans of both shows because it allows the producers to further wrap up any loose ends, beyond the "official" final episodes. But FOX the network is not only under no obligation to air these "lost" episodes -- the network probably doesn't even have the right to air them.

its pathetic that viewers invest in a network that clearly doesnt give what the viewers want, there are some major flaws in Fox quaters and not airing the Final Break Prison break film sucks the programme deserves its airing and Fox should be the ones to show it at a decent time, im sick of same old same old programmes, show us what we want, if Fox film company can put their hands in their pockets to make this then Fox network need to open their eyes, whose running that place? a bunch of muppets?
