Justin Timberlake and Will Ferrell to wrap up SNL season

by Annie Wu, posted Apr 16th 2009 1:17PM
Will FerrellBelieve it or not (and like it or not), there are only two episodes left in the 34th season of Saturday Night Live. It looks like no one from my "Nine people who must host SNL next season" wish list actually did it, but that's okay because there were some great stand-outs anyway, including Anne Hathaway and Jon Hamm.

The show seems determined to end with a bang, bringing in two sure-to-deliver performers. May 9th will bring in Justin Timberlake (and musical guest Ciara) and season finale duties will be left up to former SNL player Will Ferrell.

Unless Timberlake and Ferrell jump into their respective episodes with the full intention of completely ruining everything, there is nothing to worry about. These two gentlemen have an incredibly rare level of energy and enthusiasm that they bring to all that they do, which can often save even the worst sketches.

What are you looking forward to for these final two episodes? I'm pretty excited to see the hosts, but I'm super-excited to see if they air a Digital Short for "Boombox" with The Lonely Island boys and The Strokes' Julian Casablancas.

Timberlake I'll watch--he has talent and energy. You could not pay me enough money to watch the Ferrell episode. I'd need to be Clockwork Oranged into it.

Timberfake again? No Green Day this season? The timing would have been perfect for the release of their new album.

I'm with you, airtoast. I'm so tired of Timberfake.

The trouble is the bad sketches are just so bad and they're always too long. This day in age, it's just easier to wait and see which clips get popular on the web and not waste an hour and half on the show.

I like the idea of a cast alum closing the season. They should always have an old cast member open and close the seasons.

As bad as Tray Morgan's characters were on SNL it was a little fun to see them again.

Maybe they can use the three weekend break to write some good material. The last few episodes have been really bad.

After a few misfires earlier this year I think last week had a lot of quality material and I'm excited about both of these upcoming shows.

Didn't Will Ferrell host earlier this season?

He made an appearance as Bush during campaign season. He's only hosted once and that was back in '05.
