One more piece of Doctor Who casting news

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 17th 2009 7:01PM
Doctor WhoI previously mentioned that a few old faces would be returning to Doctor Who in David Tennant's last hurrah for the series. Well, now there is one more old face to add to that list, as well as one or two new faces that are somewhat familiar to those that watch other Brit television programs.

Spoilers after the jump...

Catherine Tate is revising her role
of Donna Noble for the Christmas two-part special that will be David Tennant's final episodes (Tate herself confirmed this in a radio interview). It makes sense, given that her grandfather (played by Bernard Cribbins) is also in the special. Also appearing will be June Whitfield, who is most famous for playing Edina's mother in Absolutely Fabulous.

Perhaps Russell T. Davies and company want to wrap up the dangling storyline of Donna's imminent brain explosion should she remember anything of her adventures with the Doctor. Or perhaps it will get convoluted even further. Who knows?

Well, if the Master's back [John Simms was also cast] , then it makes sense that Donna's back too. After all, she's got the ring... though any news on the new companion? If he/she will be staying also for the season with the new Doctor or not?

she doesnt have the Masters ring. Her ring is oval and is made of green stone and smaller. Her ring is something totally different. Given to her by her Grandmother.......

We don't care about the Doctor? Sorry, kiddo, but I've been a Who fan since the sixties. David is a fantastic Doctor, one of the best. True Doctor fans DO care, and discuss, discuss, discuss, almost as much as Lord of the Rings true fans. (Yeah, I'm one of those, too.)

Catherine Tate is REPRISING her role. "Revising" makes absolutely no sense.

I care about Doctor Who and its casting news, I care a lot. Thanks for writing about it. If most people cared it would be show on network television right after it airs in the UK. Still enough people care that its spin off, Torchwood, is one of the most popular shows on BBC America. And Doctor Who does well, if not as well, on Sci Fi (I refuse to use their new childish spelling). Many of us won't wait until it's shown in the US, but will see it right away and then again when it's finally aired (and then get the dvds). Thanks again, please keep printing any and all Doctor Who news you find.

You should check out io9.com the scifi blog. Their daily Morning Spoilers column has TONS of info on Doctor Who. For example, Donna's getting married again in the upcoming finale special. And her grandfather Wilf will be the official companion in the finale. And lots of pics from the set where they're filming on location in London.

I'm Sorry but most Americans don't care about Doctor Who and its casting news.

The new doctor and Michelle Ryan are going to kick ass. PERIOD!

Actually, there are a fair lot of us who do care about SciFi casting news in general, and Doctor Who news in specific. So keep it coming.

I thought Michelle Ryan was a one-off - have I missed something?

I care about Doctor Who and its casting news and Michelle Ryan was in the Easter special with David Tennant. It was a one off. The next special has a new companion which has already been announced on the Doctor Who BBC site.

That's extraordinarily silly. Not that I didn't love almost everything that Catherine Tate did, but really, that's almost (actually, it's pretty much exactly) like bringing Rose back. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, we'll never be able to see each other again...... oh, wait, hey there, it's the Doctor, happy Christmas!"
