Ugly Betty brings back an ex

christopher gorhamWhen Ugly Betty moved production to NYC, not everyone made the jump to the east coast. Most notably, Christopher Gorham, who played Betty's geeky-hot boyfriend, Henry, left the show. However, Michael Ausiello is reporting that Gorham, who has been seen recently on Harper's Island, is reprising his UB role this season.

As Betty fans know, our titular heroine has moved on to her Yeti classmate Matt (Daniel Eric Gold). Since Betty can't seem to focus on one guy at a time, Henry of course has to come back to New York. What confuses me about this entire storyline is that it seems very... familiar.

Apparently Henry is set to come back with his new girlfriend, and to prove that he and Betty are over each other, they're going to go on a double date to a Mets game. Doesn't this sound a lot like the Wicked episode where they went apart but together to the show to prove that they could survive without one another?

As much as I like Henry as a character and Gorham as an actor, I'm not looking forward to his return to Ugly Betty. One of this show's major weaknesses is its reliance on silly sitcom entanglements like this one. We've seen it a million times before, and we really don't need to see it again.

OMG!! I didn't even read the article (sorry Kona, I'm sure its great) but I had to comment on that body!!

Who knew that he was THAT hiding under the nerdy outfits!!

I stopped watching Ugly Betty a long time ago...so thank you for that pic........

If I remember correctly, they did not go apart to 'Wicked' to prove they were over each other. They went apart because they wanted everyone to believe that they were broken up (because he was having the baby) when they were actually together.

GO HENRY! I can't wait for the character to come back, and I hope he stays around. Matt is kind of lame. Like a poor (or rich) man's Henry. I love the actor too. I used to watch Popular obsessively for him. I'll be counting down the minutes....

Well, I am not interested in the return of Henry. If they wanted some bomb they could have given us the Return of Gio Rossi who left most unexpectedly in episode 4 this same season. I mean, we have barely heard of Henry and the whole business was long closed.

Freddy Rodriguez, on the other hand would have been more appropriate for the theme of Betty "growing up" ( though it was the topic this season was pretty much missing all through it). And they need to get rid of Matt already. The Betty/Matt affair is not interesting. His mother and father seem to be more entertaining than their love.

When I realized last week that Harper's Island was a limited series, the thought crossed my mind that the character of Henry would return to UB.

I'm thrilled.
