Smallville: Stiletto
(S08E19) Lois is back, and she's as self-absorbed as usual. However, this time she's fighting crime dressed as a cross between Catwoman and a hooker dominatrix.Oh, and she calls herself "Stiletto" because of her high-heeled boots. Why is everyone in this town so infatuated with wearing a costume? At least Lois can sew her own leather.
It's nice to see that Jimmy is still around. It's a pity he's taking a job at a criminal-run bar in order to afford his drug habit. Of course, that's not quite as bad as Chloe becoming an accessory to murder. I predict that she will likely meet her demise in the season finale. Or she will hook back up with Jimmy. Same difference.
By thinking that a stiletto was a knife, Clark proves his lousy fashion sense. This will likely come into play later when he finally picks out the tights and cape. Lois had an amusing line about sewing an "S" on her chest and asking if it was tacky. Given the amount of cleavage she was showing, I don't think her outfit had enough cloth in the chest region to fit an "S".
There was a great deal of product placement tonight. I caught references to Dell, Sony and Nike. Why even bother having a plot or characters? They just get in the way of the commercials.
Has anybody else noticed that Lois doesn't seem to get along with any of her bosses? It's a good thing she delivers those scoops.
I said it before and I'll say it again: where are the cops in Metropolis? How did Stiletto get to the crime scene first? Also, they're in the hospital yet again?
Bruno Manheim is a character from the comic books, as is the Ace of Clubs. I just thought I should mention that. The episode does give the best insight since the Watchmen movie about how the mob operates in a world populated by superheroes.
Marketing people take heed: the most effective anti-corporate message is the use of Kryptonite money. Okay, they didn't really use it as an anti-corporate message, but it's something I was thinking.
Chloe is not very good at being the nerve center of a superhero network if her unencrypted laptop can get so easily stolen. At least Clark has access to some of Oliver's equipment. Check out the voice of the Red-Blue Blur.
They did have a few subtle references to past incarnations of the Man of Steel. Lois spoke the line to the Red-Blue Blur "Can you read my mind?", which is from the 1978 Superman movie. The other was the use of a phone booth. They probably still exist, but where?
The crunching sounds from Doomsday's attack on the thug made me wonder if Doomsday was actually eating the guy.
The episode was decent, if not great. I liked the Lois/Clark interplay and you can see the relationship developing. Contrast that with Jimmy and Chloe, who are becoming train wrecks. We have only three more episodes until the big season finale of Clark vs. Doomsday.
