The Amazing Race: He Made Me Look Like Alice Cooper

by Jackie Schnoop, posted May 4th 2009 1:03AM
This leg isn't over - Phil Keoghan of The Amazing Race

(S14E11)
Last week, the four teams remaining on The Amazing Race were still in China when Phil gave them the news -- "This leg isn't over." I'll admit to snickering a bit because Cara and Jaime were so excited to finally make a first place finish. It's my evil side. Or, perhaps it's karma. After all, they've been the epitome of Ugly Americans to the point of name-calling just because folks in another country may not know English. While Tammy and Victor have the advantage of knowing Mandarin Chinese, a lot still depends on taxis and common sense.

The remaining teams
Next week is the big season finale. For the first time in ages, there are no alpha male teams in contention for the win. We have two all-female teams in the running, the first mother/deaf son team ever on the show, and a brother/sister team. Last season, the brother/sister team of Nick and Starr won the race. I don't think that puts a jinx on Tammy and Victor. Right now, China aside, Tammy and Victor seem to be in competition with Margie and Luke for the million dollars.

Although not nearly as perfect as I would have thought, Tammy and Victor definitely had a head start in this leg. Not only do they know the language, but they recently attended the Olympics in Beijing. While the nuances in the language stumbled them a bit in the detour while taking orders, it was almost painful to watch Jen and Kisha try to pronounce the food items later on. Kisha said it best, "We black, not Chinese." That said, the route for the race was planned before the teams were chosen, not geared towards any remaining team.

Both of the all-female teams have their separate woes. Neither team has much luck with the taxis. Cara and Jaime have their Ugly American thing going on, plus they get panicky. Jen and Kisha have some old "sister baggage" between them, fears, and can be a bit Ugly American themselves. They're also in the grudge match with Luke and Margie. That's not all their own doing; however, the other teams seem closer to Luke and Margie.

Detours, Roadblocks, and U-Turns, oh my
Unlike last week, tonight's episode was one of those frantically-paced, never a dull moment times on the show. It wasn't surprising that everyone except Tammy and Victor chose the opera detour task rather than attempting to give food orders in Chinese. Nor was it surprising that that the roaming gnomes made their seasonal appearance. I was a bit surprised that the teams were stuck in their opera costumes and make-up, but better them than me!

I understand the reasoning why Tammy and Victor u-turned Jen and Kisha. No, they'd never be able to outrun them to the finish line. But I'm thinking it would have been a wiser choice to u-turn Margie and Luke, their strongest competition. True, they seem to like Margie and Luke better, and it would have been a rough detour with only Margie really contributing. Do we need to remind them this is a competition for a million dollars?

As for the roadblock with its native delicacies, I'll admit that's something I'd be horrible at doing. Beetle larvae? Yuck ... even deep-fried, that can't be tasty. I even gagged on a chocolate-covered grasshopper once and I like anything chocolate. Er, except grasshoppers. They usually have the delicacy roadblock each season, and I cringe each time. Give me NYC delicacies and I can handle those, even dirty water dogs!

Urine trouble
I know a lot of folks thought I was rough on Jen last week. May I be mean again, please? What the hell was she thinking? Yeah, she had to pee. So what?! Dammit, it's a race for a million dollars and because she had to stop to use a port-a-potty, they lost by seconds! I personally would have rather seen Jen and Kisha make it to the finals than Jaime and Cara. I couldn't believe they actually made it through the u-turn delay and could have made it to the final three. Unbelievable!

May Tammy and Victor win!

Would you have stopped to use a port-a-potty?
Yes, I couldn't just pee on my leg!54 (7.8%)
No, we're talking a million dollars!638 (92.2%)

for those who truly think this reality show is real, think again. I love watching this show, but when I missed the first show and went online to see what I missed, it had already had Victor and Tami as the winners. How wrong is that? I think Luke and his mom were the best contestants in the end. I know I will NEVER watch this show again. All we have to do go online the first week it airs and we will find out who the true winner is.

I hate Margie. I hate Luke. I hate Jaime.

Go Tammy/Victor!

And yes, the routes and the challenges are setup before teams were chosen. Plus there would've been a bigger chance of Tammy/Victor to not make the final four. Just saying again for anyone who thinks the producers are "manipulating" the challenges.

Though if they are can we please have a singing/musical detour and cab drivers who don't speak a lick of English for the finale? Please?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's shocked about Jen taking a potty break and then taking forever to freakn pee. I wanted them to win a I can't believe they're out because of pee. I would've pissed on myself it would've kept me in the game. They could've been the first team that had to do two challenges and not get elimenated.

Now I'm hoping that Tammy & Victor win because Luke and Marggie are annoying and Jaime has been such a whinny little bitch I don't want her to win.

Phil was on The Bonnie Hunt Show a few weeks ago in the midst of his bike race and he mentioned that he'll arrive in New York just in time for the finale. So does that mean that's where they end up?

I was happy that Jen and Keisha went home simply because they were too belligerent. And stopping for a potty break when you're in a race to win a million dollars is just plain stupid. I think Victor and Tami had an unbelievable edge in China especially in the challenge where speaking the language was a huge help.

Jaime and Cara should be ashamed about some of the things they said on camera so I don't want them to win.

I actually think there's only "one person" I'm rooting for and that's Margie. Her son Luke was a spoiled brat at times but I have to give it to her for being able to do what she's done with a deaf partner and being the oldest one left. So I say...."Go Margie"

From my personal perspective, I didn't find Jen and Kisha to be belligerent, but I pretty much agree with every other comment you made, including J & K's potty break stupidity.

Either Margie for the solo win (not bloody likely) or Tammy and Victor (who've come along way in terms of their bro-sis relationship from where they started).

oh Kisha & Jen, I so wanted you both in the final 3, if a all-girl team is to be the 1st to win the race, I'd rather it be you two than the meanies - Jaime & Cara, oh well, GO ! GO ! GO ! Tammy & Victor !!!

Quick and to the point with no elaboration: Cara is a piece of shit.

I've never heard Cara say anything obnoxious. It's her team mate, Jamie, who is always calling people stupid and dumb for not speaking English or not knowing directions to the next destination. Cara, by contrast, is more of the "silent partner"..... unless you've seen something that I haven't seen......

My fault! You are absolutely correct!

Amendment: Jamie is a piece of shit.

Alpha males haven't been cast in ages. I wonder if the racers notice that and wonder if CBS made the field easier for them to compete.

I hope anyone wins but Margie and Luke. If he said Mom once more I was also going to strangle him.
