Spike and Entourage: A marriage made in dude TV heaven

by Mike Moody, posted May 5th 2009 2:38PM
hbo spike tv entourageSpike TV, the network for men who like to watch other men kick the crap out of each other, has acquired the off-network rights to HBO's Entourage.

The show will be one of the few scripted comedies airing on the network known for dudes-only "reality" fare like The Ultimate Fighter and TNA Impact.

Entourage will hit Spike in January, after season six wraps on HBO. Spike nabbed all 78-produced eps for an all-cash license fee of about $600,000 each.

This is a perfect fit. Not only was Spike's schedule desperately in need of a decent dude-centric comedy (as far as I can tell, the only other one they air is Married With Children, and that's stretching it), but Entourage is the perfect male fantasy counterpoint to violent, in-our-face stuff like Ultimate Fighter and Pros vs. Joes.

It's a show about four regular dudes running around Hollywood making movies and getting more money and women than they can handle. Plus it's produced by Mark Wahlberg, who I can picture watching Spike TV all night with his own entourage after a hard day of making movies and living with more money and women than they can handle.
