Dancing with the Stars: Week 9 Results

Cody Linley with his wooden hips(S08E17) Tonight's show was a little better for filler and padding because of the pro dancer competition. The insanity of Cody Linley makes up for having to sit through Jamie Cullum.

I don't understand the comedy of Dance Center. Poking fun at the celebrities is one thing, but trying to be a bastard to Len Goodman just doesn't seem like it was in good taste. The only positive thing I got off the whole bit was that Mark = Dramatic Chipmunk.

We started off the night with Melissa's perfect 30 samba. I have a feeling there was more double sided tape today, but also Melissa's cleavage is not as squished tonight. Yeah, I looked.

Jamie Cullum I Get a Kick Out of You – After Jamie's one hit "All at Sea," he fell off my radar. He lost my trust when he stepped on the piano. I found that to be offensive. The dancing is pretty and it's great to see a professional ace a quickstep, but that doesn't cover Jamie's underwhelming performance.

Macy's Stars of Dance – Tom mentioned a big dancing star, but I didn't recall that he actually said her name. Thanks, Tom. The biggest star I saw was Travis from season two of So You Think You Can Dance? As for the dancing, I now have placed a huge rotating jungle gym on top of my Christmas list. The red was too strong to actually see any of the dancers, but their movements looked pretty.

Pro Dancer Competition

Afton & CodySamba – Afton's partners keep getting eliminated, probably because Afton was the only good one. After one season has passed, Cody has increased his boyish charm with the women. Cody gets her teaching style and she deals well with both his high energy and hectic schedule. Cody always had the most awkward hip actions, but he made it to the semi-finals. Oh and where did these lyrics to "Hips don't lie" come from? They are as awkward as Cody's hips.

Len thought that Afton taught Cody well. Len knows that Cody is wooden, but Afton's choreography is good. Bruno likes that Afton pulled the strength out of Cody. Carrie Ann thought that Cody was cute, but Afton turned her style up a notch. It turns out that Afton's number was wrong, and the Michael J. Fox ad covered her actual number. Rigging the vote much?

Mayo & LisaQuickstep - Lisa is 5'6". Mayo is 6'3". I understand that there may be taller contestants, but why give Mayo a contestant who's almost a foot shorter? Mayo's teaching style is blunt and he's quick to point out the flaws. I was a little concerned about Lisa's dress tripping her, but she dealt with both the dress and the height difference.

Bruno liked that Mayo took advantage of Lisa's assets and in this case he actually means assets and not ass. Carrie Ann liked Lisa's larger than life attitude, but she went a little out of control. Funny that Cody wasn't out of control when he danced. Len liked that Mayo pushed the limits and did a good job. As Lisa's husband applauds, Omarosa tried to weasel her way into the camera shot. Go away Omarosa, you'll never make this show.

Anna & MauriceTango – I'm surprised that Maurice didn't do the tango. He was in fifth place. Anna tried to be strict, but fair with her teaching. As the two danced, Maurice's movements were fine, but his shoulders were a little too high. Oh and what is up with the hand down the middle of the body move? That's uncomfortable.

Carrie Ann thought it was semi-final worthy. They danced great together. Len thought that Anna brought the most out of her celebrity. Bruno thought that she was a miracle worker. That's got to be a big jab to Cheryl.

We finally get to the eliminations and the bottom two were the couples on the bottom of the scoreboard. Somehow Ty & Chelsie dodged another bullet and Lil Kim & Derek were sent home. It was because she said "shit," wasn't it? While all the contestants hug Kim & Derek, I noticed an odd thing: Tony grabs people by the back of the neck as a support.

Next week, two more dances. We get to see how loose Ty can get dancing the Samba. Probably, not as loose as Lil Kim could ever get, but he won't ever whisper "shit" on live television.

like it just BECAME a popularity contest? Did you watch the past seasons? It's always been about that.

and sorry... but if Ty has the fan base... both through the PRCA and PBR ... and for those charmed by his personality and effort, or those just offended by Len's rudeness and uncalled for comments.. then so be it! Ty got to stay!

And if they eliminated any potential contestant that had any dance experience at all, we'd be watching... almost nothing. Do they have an advantage? Of course they do. Is it fair? Of course it's not. Will it ever change? Of course it won't. Kristi Yamaguchi was the perfect example of that ... at least this season it's not just one front-runner leagues away from the others.

But watch out for those Ty Murray fans... I doubt their dialing and voting online will slow down! Never underestimate the power of some really determined fans.

With one shocking elimination, they have managed to make this show a once exciting competition to a boring dull show. This is no real finale when the best dancers are not in it. Lil Kim deserved a place.

Lil kim was the best and most exciting dancer on the show. If you want to talk about the improvements that Ty has made -- look at how Lil Kim has progressed. I'm so saddened like no other year because she not only deserved a place in the finals but deserved to win. Regis, Barbara Walters and Steve O were among those rooting for her. It's sad that this has become a popularity contest and not a dancing contest because there would be no question that the best dancers were lil kim and derek.

Stacy Keibler was a cheerleader, Joey McEntire, Drew Lachey, Willa Ford, Monique Coleman, Joey Fatone, Sabrina Bryan, Mel B, Mario, Marissa Winokur, Toni Braxton, and Lance Bass have all done choreography so there is no need to be picking on past dance experience now, if it hasn't been picked on before.

I was shocked to the very core of my being by last night's result. I am not sure I will ever recover.

I just don't understand it. This is supposed to be a show where the "celebrity" is an amature dancer. Yet we have Melissa, who not only could be considered a professional. (and yes, the cheerleaders do dance routines, so she danced professionally), they change the rules this year so that the judges will use rehearsal tapes to judge a contestant. That is so not fair. If the contestant can't dance that night they should be out, plain and simple. Melissa didn't seem to be too hurt as she was able to rehearse for the next week. There is room for abuse here by the celebrity if they can't perform at full speed then they use rehearsal and the sympathy vote to stay on the show..... Not fair

Lil Kim getting kicked off was a surprise, but let's face it, Ty is the ultimate celebrity for dancing with the stars, he certainly is a rank amature at dancing and has improved the most.

At least he is not a Ringer like Melissa is.

Why do you consider Melissa a "ringer?" Cheerleading is not dancing, as is ice skating also not dancing.

She's not a ringer and could very likely wind up being the winner of this competition.

If Melissa is considered a ringer for being a cheerleader, then Shawn is a ringer for doing the floor routine in gymnastics, and Lil Kim is a ringer for having choreography experience.

No one is a ringer because the things that they are good at aren't Ballroom related.

If Omarosa ever makes the show. I believe they call that "jumping the shark" and I won't watch.

You do realize that the biggest star ever during the Stars of Dance was the actual star? Or the jungle gym as you called it? It took me a bit to realize it but then it kicked in. ;O)

Well, I feel silly. They kept focusing on the girl in the middle and I didn't know who she was. I thought that the one with the most air time must have been one of those well known contemporary dancers.
