The Office's Mindy Kaling is developing her own show

mindy kaling the officeNBC hearts Mindy Kaling, the actor-writer-producer who plays the insecure Kelly Kapoor on The Office. The network has offered her a deal to create and star in her own NBC series. And who could blame them?

Kaling's a talented writer who has penned some great Office eps, including "Golden Ticket," "Diwali" and "Frame Toby." She's also a memorable character actor. Kelly is a great character, and I won't soon forget her brief appearance as Paul Rudd's ex-girlfriend in The 40 year Old Virgin.

Kaling will continue to appear and work on The Office next season while developing the new show. She's currently kicking around ideas.

The show might be a single-camera workplace comedy, like The Office, or a buddy comedy like Flight of the Conchords. Kaling, who worked on the WB pilot Mindy and Brenda, told Variety that she'd also like to create a show about women.

I think Kaling's show should definitely not be another Office clone. (We already have one of those). I want to see an Office alum deliver something original and, er funny this time. What do you think, folks? Got any ideas for Kaling's show?

Whatever her show is going to be I bet we will see scenes in The Office of Kelly calling it the greatest show ever and annoy everyone else at DM talking about it.

10 to 1 it's better than Parks and Recreation.
