Ugly Betty: The Born Identity - open thread

Ugly Betty

I used to really be into Ugly Betty, and now ... not so much. There are just other things to watch, and that feeling of "oh, Ugly Betty is a great show I wonder what's going to happen tonight!" is just gone. I think it ended around the time that she took that hansom cab ride with that one guy though she still wanted to be with Henry. Or something. Anyway, I'm looking at it and ... Ralph Macchio is in it now?! And David Rasche?! Discuss last night's episode here.

I agree with you. This show has been downhill since they decided to get rid of their best players. Right at the top of the career most fans were interested in this new Guy Gio. People were getting tired of Betty's old relationships and we found romance, adventure and good acted scenes when Gio and Betty started their romance since episode 2.03 up until episode 2.17 (the triangle was boring though. Gorham character was watered down all through season 2) and now we are not interested in Betty's love life at all (Jesse and Matt are not even shadows of Henry and Gio). Plus the lack of entertaining plots, and those hideous clothes, and Betty's new personality is a real let down. I hope they improve season 4 and they bring back the Gio... natch.

I always liked the show, it was quirky , unrealistic and fun to see what was going to happen next. Unfortunately, because I view tv via sattelite, I lost the ability to watch ABC as well as CBS due to having "local" over the air networks (which don't reach my rural area). So I have had to watch the shows I used to love via the internet. I tend to forget to do that, as life gets busy. So my viewing has been sporadic at best. It still seems quirky, the unrealistic side has gotten stronger, and it's not as fun as it used to be, especially as sometimes the internet version doesn't like my broadband and breaks up so I see mouths moving but lose the sound . I have also noticed ABC isn't posting all the episodes of the year like they used to. I missed a whole three months of shows and went back to watch a marathon of UB only to find out they weren't available. Oh well. I'll stick to fox ,WB and occasionally nbc. Maybe UB will go into syndication and I can watch it again.

Ugly Betty definitely seems to have lost its way since the Henry vs Gio days. With all the focus on the financial problems at Mode, Wilhemina's lover/baby, and Daniel's romance, UB forgot to place importance on Betty's strong bond with her family, which was a large part of what made the show so great in the first place.

What a douchebag!! If it bothers you so much, Why did you even click in here to look at the comments? And then, you went to the further effort to post a comment pissing on the concept? People like you are would be annoying, if I didn't pity you more. And "..these open thread things are making me want to get my TV news elsewhere." !!! You make it sound as if you pay for this stuff. IF YOU DON"T LIKE IT, DON"T CLICK ON IT!!!!!!!

Is it possible for you guys to just set up a forum for people to "talk about" episodes and give up on these open thread "posts"? I'm fine reading episode summaries or even writers' opinions about episodes, but these open thread things are making me want to get my TV news elsewhere.

I'm now kinda forcing myself to see UB. I'm still looking for that spark it had in season 1.

But I'm loving Ralph Macchio! More Archie, please.

I totally agree. It just hasn't been the same since Henry left. I don't like Matt at all (no chemistry) and I don't really care about Mode's money troubles. The only stuff that has interested me was when Christina gave birth on the runway, Yeti, and Justin's friendship with the other boy. I hope they spend more time on Justin next season. He's a great character.

I haven't watched this series since they moved Bones to Thursdays. Really it hasn't been that great all year. Ugly Betty just doesn't have the sense of wonderment it had in that first season.
