Law and Order: CI: In Treatment - open thread

Jeff Goldblum should stick to movies. Noone can compare to Vincent D'Onofrio. I wish that Julianne would do something cause look at Mariska and then look at her.

I like Goldblum in this role, and I think the "revolving door" of D'Onofrio, Noth and Goldblum (and even Bogosian, for that matter) is proof that SVU could work with different leads.

I also think Julianne Nicholson needs to do something with her hair!

I've been a die-hard fan of the show since inception. For me it's always been my favorite of the L&O lineup because of Det. Goren's (D'onofrio) unique approach character quirks, and inner demons. It's what's driven the show all these seasons. Regarding the new season, I feel there should have been an extended season premier where we see Goren and Nichols (Goldblum) interact if at least in a couple scenes.

Although I was not the biggest fan of bringing in Chris Noth to trade off episodes, the way they wrote him into the show (when murders were going on at a prison and his girlfriend was one of the nurses at the prison) was effortless and a fluid way to bring him on board to Major Case Squad.

That being said, I was a bit concerned about the constant delays on the new season of CI. There were some net rumors about Goldblum not meshing well, etc. I'm actually pleased with his performance. I never got to see his performance on Raines (or whatever that other cop show was), but he brings a fresh off-kilter performance to the show. With Chris Noth's character I could always tell who was going to be handling the case before the intro music played. He usually got drug crimes, gang crimes, and other less intellectually demanding crimes. They were still good in the sense of good ol' fashioned L&O crime solving but not the way I had come to become a fan of when Det. Goren had to solve cases. With Goldblum on the beat we can still get those cream of the crop episodes where the detective has to play mind games and trick the perpetrators into confessing. So far, so good. This last episode "In Treatment" was a solid episode. It really played to the strengths of Goldblum's character and we got to peel off another layer of his past learning that his father is a foremost authority in psychology and that Det. Nichols dropped out of medical school to become a cop. My favorite line was where he said something to the effect that he got full psychological profiles and lectures every morning with his cornflakes.

I think that even in an open thread you should probably guide the discussion at least a little... I mean, even a once sentence comment about this actual episode would be valuable as a launching point.

That said, I think it's interesting that they're using the pregnancy on the show, but I wonder if that means we'll get a temp partner for Nichols at some point...
