Keith Olbermann takes on Miss California

by Bob Sassone, posted May 13th 2009 6:09PM
First let me say that this is NOT a "political" post. I'm posting this video because it concerns something that happened on television recently that has somehow consumed all of the local and national newscasts (and it's a beauty pageant, of all things). It features MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and his take on the whole Miss California (Carrie Prejean) controversy. It's an interesting video essay. I think that Prejean can think whatever she wants to think and Perez Hilton is kind of a moron. I also think that Olbermann gets in a few good points.

I believe that in the interest of all viewers who favor nudity, all pageants should be done naked.

There are several advantages to this strategy: 1) no dispute about whether the contestant got implants, tummy tucks, butt enlargements/reductions 2) increase in viewership at least among the lesbians, lesbian-curious and heterosexual men 3) it's time these contestants promote hirsute women, instead of complying to what they think most men like down there 4) it would be a good dress rehearsal for Playboy and other men's magazines.

Also, in the interest of all concerned and because of selective media censorship, the pageant should know in advance where the contestants stand on key, sensitive political issues.

Ms. Prejean was given a second chance despite her teenage nudity, her pageant-paid-for breast enhancement and her views on gay union. Trump, ever the opportunist, refused to fire Ms. Prejean despite all these so-called 'rule violations'. It's unfortunate that this rather naive girl got caught up in one of the most sensitive political hot potatoes, especially in CA. I believe that were Prop 8 defeated, Ms. Prejean would not have drawn the ire and audience that we witness today. I feel bad for her naivete and for thinking that corporations and pageants are not whores for the media, bereft with sensationalism.

Since the issue of nudity is my 'tongue-hanging-out' alternative, we should also make ice-skating and ski-ing a nude contest. I have no problems if gays want other contests to be nude contests too. After all, corporations are the ones who want us to buy clothing. I'd rather traipse around 'nekkid' myself, in all my hirsute glory.

It is amazing how right wing republicans are latching on to a "dunce of the month" in attempts to champion their dysfunctional beliefs. Last Fall it was Sarah Palin. Then it was Joe-Duh-Plumber. Now it's Miss California.

It is incredible how far down the republican party has fallen. The GOP has been hijacked by the mutant right wing and their leaders are now Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck! It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

The militant and mutant right wing has now replaced Lincoln as their party god with Rush Limbaugh. Even last week, the right wing roundly attacked Colin Powell, saying he wasn't a real republican and their party is better off without him. Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck & their ilk all beat the same drums of hatred and division condemning Colin Powell and anyone like him who dares to speak with a moderate and sane voice.

It is almost humorous how right wing radio and their listeners began portraying then-candidate Obama as an extremist who 'pals around with terrorists', when they are the ones who have become the radicals. They have mutated into extremists hell bent on polarization of politics and our country. There is no middle ground with their militant form of conservatism. And because of that, they will be left with no ground at all.

Let me get this right, millions of folks have lost their jobs, thousands have lost their home and we (me included) are ranting and raving about what Ms. California has to say..We should all be ashamed of ourselves.

W T F is right is Keith Olberman a closet queen or what ,Frist of all "oposite marriage" as he so sarcasticly puts it .Oh F Y I its called traditional marriage because since man could walk up right and reproduce you need a man and a woman to bring childern into this world something that the gay activist want to over look so that some how a lifestyle choice can be legitimizes, the reason for traditional marriage is it is thought to be the best of both worlds meaning a man and a woman having a infulenece comming from both prospectives on there childern. Is it prefect no nothing in life is but if you look to the animal world you will see thats how life carries on the human race. If jimmy wants to do johnny or mary wants to lick kim thats all fine and dandee but dont think it could ever be marriage thats just absurd.

The media manufactured this controversy. What she said is not controversial to most and happens to be the same opinion held by the President, Hilary Clinton and apparently the majority of voting Californians. Why is the media blowing this out of proportion? Leave to the ever fair Olberman to attack her, but conveniently forget Obamas position during the campaign. Weird....

It's not a political post! Well, except to those who would make it so...

I like Keith even though he tends to bloviate. The actual controversy is:

1) She voiced an opinion for which she took some heat. Opinions are like that. She then began complaining that the blowback was caused by hate & intolerance & Satan and all the usual bazzfazz (though why we should all be giving a damn about the opinions of a beauty pageant contestant is kinda sad).

2) She lied about not having any "inappropriate" photos of herself prior to the pageant. I'm not sure how the topless pictures made her a better witness for Christ.

3) Her staunch Christianity isn't the issue: her hypocrisy is. She had implants; The Bible warns us not to be vain or conceited (Philippians 2:3-4) and not to draw attention to ourselves by the way we look (1 Timothy 2:9). She took some racy photos. She allowed herself to be exploited by men for money.

4) She has aligned herself with Trump, a well-known adulterer, greedhead & agent of Satan (okay, tell me that isn't true...).

These are the things people are saying about her. I pass no judgement; my sins are as great as yours. But hiding behind the Bible is always problematic for us imperfect sorts. Just admit to your shortcomings. I'd have had a lot more respect (all right: any respect) if she'd just come clean.

VERY SLIM Majority, dear. And up to a third of those voted out of fear because of the scare tactics of those awful Mormons who spent tens of millions on ads which lied and told people that if gay people are allowed to get married, that their children's school cirriculum will be changed to incude "gay marriage", and that their churches will be denied federal 501(3)C non profit status' if they fail to perform gay marriage. Neither of those provisions were in the vote, but people were afraid, and they voted accordingly. It's okay though... people are being educated now, and the tide is changing. It's just a matter of time...

I LOVE Keith Olberman. He tells it as it is. The truth. Unfiltered. Carrie Whatever is ridiculous... amost as ridiculous as Donald Trump. The poor silicon-plumped girl feels persecuted. Boo Hoo Hoo. What a hoot. God, I love pop culture. You can't WRITE this stuff.

Interestingly enough, her opinion is also the opinion of the majority of California voters - and yet SHE's the controversial one...
