Buffy, Tru Calling producers working on teen series

The N logoThe N just picked up Gigantic, a half-hour series from former Buffy the Vampire Slayer exec. producer Marti Noxon and Dawn Prouse (Tru Calling, Prison Break). Gigantic is a "dramedy" that skewers the lives of Hollywood kids whose parents are A-list celebs.

Normally, I'd say this premise makes Gigantic sound like another brain dead tween show. You know, the kind that might end up launching the next big bubblegum pop star like Miley Cyrus. But I expect more from Noxon, Prouse and The N.

You ever watch The N? It's not just Moesha and Zoey 101 reruns. The network has a history of developing and airing some pretty progressive shows (South of Nowhere, Degrassi: The Next Generation) about and for teens. Plus, veteran producers Noxon and Prouse have helped turn other potentially one-note shows into great TV. So I doubt that Gigantic will be just another sugary tween comedy.

The show, billed as a coming-of-age story, will also feature celebrity cameos and testimonials by real-life Hollywood teens. The N, which will soon be known as "TeenNick," has ordered 13 episodes of Gigantic for the upcoming fall season.

I'd watch just about anything that's done by a Buffy or Angel alum. Unfortunately I doubt this show will ever see the light of day here in Aus.
