Have you experienced Snake 'N' Bacon?

Snake N BaconOn Sunday night/Monday morning, [adult swim] premiered something called Snake 'N' Bacon. What is Snake 'N' Bacon? Well, I'm not entirely sure, actually. But I liked it. I think. Yes. Actually, I really liked it.

Like most [as] shows, Snake 'N' Bacon is a fifteen minute program with its own distinct aesthetic, presenting an interesting mix of animated sequences with live-action bits. I never thought there would be a way to translate creator Michael Kupperman's stuff on the small screen, but there we go. Weird, extra-funny, weird.

I'm trying to figure out a way to describe the main characters, but I don't think there's any way for me to do them justice. I mean, Snake is, uh, a snake and just hisses. Bacon, voiced by the ever-popular James Urbaniak, just says things about bacon in the first-person. Despite the generally straightforward delivery, I laughed for a solid five minutes or so at Bacon's line "Wrap your dog's pill in me." I can safely say that I have never laughed so hard at a talking piece of bacon voiced by James Urbaniak.

The rest of the cast is also rather impressive. Bill Hader and Peter Serafinowicz's epic snarl of a voice covered a few animated characters, and Dan Bakkedahl and Kristen Schaal both appeared in live action, Bakkedahl as a CSI guy and Schaal as some sort of green fairy from the 20s. I was extra-surprised to see author David Rakoff in the episode too, if that's of any interest to you literary nerds out there.

If you missed it, you can catch Snake N Bacon here. It looks like this is going to be the only episode unless [as] decides to pick it up, so if you dig it, write a flirty little e-mail to [as] and ask if they'd like to split a malt in exchange for some more episodes.

Finally, an important warning: Brian Stack's "Rabid District Attorney" theme will get stuck in your head for a good three days or so. Really.

I really didn't care for it.. I love Robert Smigel, Bill Hader and Kristen Schaal's work, but I didn't find the show to be any good..

His stuff works great on the small screen, as evidenced by the two shorts on Comedy Central's TV Funhouse (I can't find Captain Marginal anywhere though):
