Simpsons writer brings animated sci-fi comedy to Comedy Central

Ugly Americans 5 OnComedy Central is adding a number of shows to its schedule for the upcoming fall season. One of the network's more interesting projects comes from former Simpsons writer David Stern, who also worked on Monk and The Wonder Years.

Stern's new animated comedy, Ugly Americans, is being billed as a spinoff of the ComedyCentral.com animated series 5 On. Ugly Americans is set in a very different New York City where humans co-exist with aliens and robots.

I know, I think it sounds a bit like Futurama too. But here's the difference. Unlike Futurama, Ugly Americans is about a NYC social worker at the Department of immigration who helps immigrants, from outer space and from other countries, adjust to life in the U.S.

I'm guessing the show won't be riffing on sci-fi movies and TV shows much, like Futurama. The humor will purportedly come from the aliens making the transition to becoming Americans. Judging by the 5 On shorts, this thing should be pretty funny. It might also help fill a void for Futurama fans, since that show might have come to a close with the last DVD movie.

Ugly Americans is set to premiere next year with a seven-episode run.

The Family Guy writers, in a fit of rage after hearing about this, kill three small children, and then ask each other, "hey do you remember that time we killed three small children?" and flash back to it in their minds.

Yup, that's how we handle the news, feel free to check out our take on other news of the day here-

This also owes something to the Men in Black movies, doesn't it?
