Reaper: Business Casualty

Reaper(S02E12) While I enjoyed tonight's episode (mostly due to the extended Ray Wise sequences in the beginning), I have to ask: why did the Devil ask Sam to work at the office in the first place? Is it to set up Sam's eventual take-over of the Devil's duties? Was it just to screw with Sam's head? It's tough to tell. Judging by Ray Wise's body language, it might be a little of both.

One could tell that tonight's story was going to be a little different when they wrapped up the escaped soul capture in the opening segment. Wasn't that horn just the cutest little vessel? It didn't even have to touch the soul, just make a silly noise.

The Devil obviously wanted Sam to escape the trap in the beginning. Is it favoritism or something more sinister?

Why do so many shows financed by corporations give anti-corporate messages? It's somewhat contradictory and hypocritical.

At first, I thought Nina wasn't coming back from Hell, given the cuteness of the bath/shower conversation between her and Ben. It seemed like one of those "television final moments." But I was incorrect, and she came back from Hell in one piece.

Tonight we learned that Ben is a hairstylist, a hobby architect, and pretty darned ripped, to boot (that metrosexual lifestyle is paying off). I'm sad to say when seeing Sock without a shirt that I could probably pass as his body double. Hearing that Sock and Ben do each others' hair explains a lot.

While I realize I'm talking about a series where demons roam around the Earth, I couldn't help but think that building glass wouldn't shatter like that. Also, does every sports club have a master key to get into lockers? I would think that the Work Bench employees would be smart enough to bring a pair of bolt cutters from the store to get through any combination lock.

I wouldn't have made an analogy of Stevie Wonder to people screaming in agony. I would have used Sanjaya (particularly since I believe Ben would actually listen to Sanjaya).

Favorite Ray Wise line of the evening: "No, it's a portal to Secaucus." I live right next to Secaucus, and it's just like that.

Sock was extra-funny tonight in his rudeness to Maggie. He's also very good at the whole reverse-psychology stuff, even if he's making it up as he goes along. While it's virtually a given that the series isn't being renewed, I think Tyler Labine is going places (like another show).

I hate it when a television show tries to pass off a cute woman as ugly. Or perhaps I'm simply misinterpreting an attempt by the show to make Sock appear as an even bigger jerk. What do you think?

I'm so glad they're not going with Ray Wise's look near the end of the episode. It just didn't look right.

I hope if the show isn't renewed, that next week gives a decent wrap-up. Or maybe a theatrical spin-off like Firefly. See you all next week for the season, and possibly series, finale.

Are you sure she came back? After all, as the whole Maggie sub plot pointed out, a demon can look like *anyone*.

Hopefully Ben would know the difference if a different demon had come back.

Sam is cute no matter what he does, and while at first I thought maybe the Devil was setting Sam up for a fall (with his Dad), I think it's just favoritism, and the Devil trying yet again to lure Sam into the "bad" life.

I'm not giving up on Reaper yet. ABC Studios are still trying to move the show into syndication or cable. We're advocating all Reaper fans to write their CW affiliates. All links and info here: http://community.livejournal.com/reaperdmv/44208.html And don't forget to contact ABC Studios and thank them for not giving up on Reaper.
