Reaper goes out in a Hellfire of glory

by Brad Trechak, posted May 28th 2009 1:03PM
ReaperGood news for all you Reaper fans who are disappointed at the lack of renewal of your favorite Satanic show. TV Guide reports a surge in the number of people watching the final episode (2.22 million). I haven't kept up with the individual episode ratings, but I assume they were less. Sadly, it still got beat in viewership numbers by According to Jim, which is why it is still difficult to think of The CW as a real network.

Seriously, the show is still in the market, and this lends a strong case to allowing the show to get picked up elsewhere. The ratings show there is still an interest (hopefully not brought about by a lack of interest in the competition). I could see Reaper working on a cable channel such as SyFy or Comedy Central, although it may require an even greater drop in production cost if that's possible.

Actually, I'm surprised that ABC Studios isn't trying to sell Reaper to sister company ABC Family. Reaper seems like it would fit pretty well with the other one-hour scripted dramas on that network.

In recent memory they already canceled The Middleman and Kyle XY on ABC Family, so I don't see it as an easy sell to ABC Family given their track record for killing shows that are off the beaten path. More and more I see ABC Family following the same path as CW (a sad comparison).

Probably Syndication is its best bet.

Great update, Brad, thanks. And yeah, Bart, we'd all love for Reaper to get 6.66 million viewers. Let's fight for the chance, in a Season Three! Check out the links above.

2.22 million

It would have been really amusing if it had gotten exactly three times as many views as that.

ABC Studios is in talks with SyFy, but syndication is by far and away more likely. Industry insiders confirm Hollywood Reporter's article that ABC Studios is actively trying to sell Reaper. Syndication is a very real possiblity right now, but EVERYONE is recommending writing your affiliates! Help out!
