ABC to burn off remaining Samantha Who?, Cupid eps this summer

samantha who? fianl episodes air date abcABC has given an air date to Samantha Who?'s swan song. The network will begin burning off the seven remaining episodes of the show Thursdays at 8 p.m. starting June 25.

As we mentioned last week, even a petition set up by star Christina Applegate couldn't save Samantha Who? from the axe. It's a shame. Applegate has turned into such a magnetic and charming comedic actor. Here's hoping she gets another shot at her own show or, like Jason already suggested, a long-running guest stint on HIMYM or maybe The Big Bang Theory.

ABC is also making room on its summer schedule for the final eps of Cupid and In the Motherhood. The sole remaining ep of Cupid, which shared the same fate as the 1998 show it was based on, will air June 16 -- if the NBA Finals don't make it to Game 6! (That's another slap in the face from the network to Cupid creator Rob Thomas). In the Motherhood's final three eps will begin airing June 25 at 8:30 p.m.

I love Christina Applegate and would hate to see her career doomed to a guest-starring role on a POC sitcom like "HIMYM." She really, REALLY deserves better.

I'd like to see CA get another show like Jesse but without screwing it up after one season.

I tried watching this show and thought "Samantha Who watches this crap?" (Couldn't resist it, this is an amateur blog after all). The writing was terrible, unimaginative and pabulum for the dumbest viewer. If Jesse had gone on to twenty seasons with the same decline they had from seasons one and two their 20th would still be better than SW.

That being said, CA would fit well in either a starring or ensemble role and I look forward to her next role.

One note CA, comedies that have funny scripts don't need laugh tracks or audiences laughing. Get one ala Scrubs, Earl, Arrested Development, and others who don't need the laughs to tell you what bits are supposed to be funny (again, snarkyness due to the blog thing).

Great post!

I watched Samantha Who's first season and thought exactly the same thing. It's a shame, because Christina Applegate and Jennifer Esposito are both great. It was a weak premise made worse with lame writing.

Well I am glad Cupid and In The Motherhood is going, but really, Samantha Who? has to be let go? Oh well...

i cannot see applegate on thebigbangtheory but she'd fit in pretty well on HIMYM as a semireg. perhaps an ensemble show would be better at this point then for her than to have another show get canned that she headlines. sam who was funny but it obviously didn't get the ratings.
