Susan Boyle treated for exhaustion after Talent defeat

Susan Boyle is hospitalzed following her loss on Britain's Got Talent. It's fair to say plans to transform Susan Boyle's overnight celebrity into a performing and recording career are on hold now that the singer is reportedly hospitalized for exhaustion following her runner-up finish on Britain's Got Talent.

According to multiple British news reports, Boyle suffered a severe anxiety attack after her internationally viewed defeat on the show. Police were called to Boyle's hotel this weekend and assessed the 48-year-old Scottish contestant under the U.K.'s Mental Health Act. She was taken to an area clinic for treatment.

At first glance, this looks like a simple instance of "too much, too soon" for an individual thrust into the spotlight before she was really ready for the attention. But, the case is getting serious now that British authorities are planning to investigate Britain's Got Talent's producers for allowing Boyle to perform in the show's finale when they allegedly knew she wasn't coping well.

In the week leading up to Boyle's final performance, the British tabloid press published multiple reports of Boyle's emotional outbursts and profane tirades. Now, authorities are investigating if Boyle wasn't eating or sleeping properly during that time -- and if producers knew she was breaking down and kept it quiet so they could have their big finale.

At the moment, it seems what made Boyle so appealing to millions of viewers (her homespun, self-effacing personality matched with a startlingly powerful voice) put her out of commission. This isn't the end for the singer -- as Simon Cowell himself expressed concern for her and her potential prospects. But a long rest is in order for a woman who was a total unknown just a few weeks ago.

It is a complete travesty that Susan Boyle did not win. The group that won is nothing more than synchronized human robots...like synchronized swimmers without the water. Boyle has a natural talent that few possess. It is not right that Diversity won over Boyle. Bad press just a few days before the finals, some of which was made up, sabotaged the votes given to her. I hope Boyle can rise above this and become the star she truly is. Diversity won't be around five years from now...you can't listen to them...they are boring to say the least after about two seconds. Boyle will be if she can get past the negatives concerning fame.

Sorry, but it's just another step in the long road towards an E! True Hollywood Story. She'll be forgotten in a year, on drugs and will probably OD in the next few. She clearly cannot deal with the fame and the attention and there's a reason why she was a recluse for so long. Overnight sensations vanish just as quickly as they arrived 99% of the time. This one-hit-wonder will be no exception.
