Buffy's Willow tops list of pop culture's greatest nerds
OK, so she turned evil and veiny and almost destroyed the world after someone murdered her hot lesbian lover. But at heart, Willow Rosenberg was always a computer-hacking, research-loving nerd. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer character landed at number one on Topless Robot's list of "Pop Culture's 10 Greatest Nerds." I was surprised by the pick at first, but I can't think of a better choice to top the list. Willow was a great character, and will probably always be actor Alyson Hannigan's best role (sorry, HIMYM fans, but it's true).
I loved watching Willow grow up and progress, and change hairdos, over seven seasons of Buffy. I was happy to see her stay true to her nerdy self until the end – even after she temporarily morphed into a glowing goddess in the series finale.
Other TV nerds on the TR list include Family Matters' Steve Urkel (he was everywhere and annoying, but great?) and Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory (a great pick from the nerd-friendly '90s). Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory is second only to "nerd for all seasons" Jeff Albertson, a.k.a. Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. Check out the full list.
Got anyone to add to the list? Off the top of my head, I'd want to include Landry from Friday Night Lights, Geordi Laforge from Star Trek: The Next Generation and, of course, Bunsen the Muppet.
