5 Questions With: Angela V. Shelton

by Katy Kroll, posted Jun 5th 2009 5:30PM
As one-half of the comedy duo Frangela, Angela V. Shelton is always attached at the hip with best friend Frances Callier. But the pair was broken up Thursday night when Angela got booted off 'I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here.'

During her brief time on the show, Angela had an altercation with Spencer Pratt when he knocked a water bottle out of her hand; run-ins with spiders, snakes and rats; and drank a milkshake made out of cow intestines.

As the first to get voted off by viewers, Angela spoke to AOL TV via conference call about life in the Costa Rican jungle, what goes on behind the scenes and what the real deal is with Spencer and Heidi Montag. – By Katy Kroll

1. The fight you had with Spencer, did he stage that for the cameras or is he really unhinged?
Both, I think. I'm trying to figure out how he passed the psych evaluation and by what margin. I don't understand his motivations, but I don't know him very well. They really did not spend much time with us. Whenever they were at camp they were just hollering about their products and endorsements. They are definitely people who are 24/7 on their J-O-B of promoting themselves. Do I believe he was trying to hit me? No. Do I believe he was trying to be physically threatening? Of course he was. And I think that's reprehensible and ridiculous behavior.

2. Do you think Heidi and Spencer will be allowed back on the show?
We had a vote, we voted no -- and they're still getting the opportunity to come back. So that shows you how useful the voting is. [Laughs.] We voted no and it's still an issue. [Laughs.] It's a good group of people who will give them a second chance. But they don't really have a choice. They won't punish Heidi and Spencer or make it hard for them. If Heidi and Spencer come back to really be part of the team, I know they will be accepted. But they're pretty closed off. Heidi and Spencer are Heidi and Spencer, they operate on a different form of energy than the rest of us -- which may in fact be the dark forces.

3. Now that you've spent some time with them, what's the verdict: Are they really in love or is that just for show too?
That's one of the positive things I can say about them. What Heidi and Spencer showed me is that there is truly somebody on this planet for everyone. Together, they are united. They cuddle, they're very loving to each other ... in their own weird, evil way. They are definitely made for each other. They're both crazy, and they both take turns on some of the crazy. They're just slightly different kinds of crazy. It's a perfect match.

4. So, what goes on when the cameras aren't rolling?
Everything you see is a 1,000 times worse than it looks. It is so difficult and hard. There are no time-outs, we have to gather our own water, take care of our own latrine, cook our own food, all of that stuff. On the weekends, we do more trials. Whatever you see on Monday, we did on Saturday and Sunday. There's no time off. None. We are all covered with bites. We are just constantly being bitten and stung. And the bug spray seems to be more like seasoning for the bugs than repellent. It took me two days to get that cow intestine milkshake taste out of my mouth. Horrifying.

5. Are all the trials truly safe or are you taking your life into your own hands to some extent?
There are a ton of wranglers. There are hundreds of people involved in this production, including a medical team -- they don't speak to us, but they're there. They really do make every effort to make sure people don't get hurt. But at the same time, you are going into the jungle so you're going to get some cuts and bruises. Should you be eaten by a rat? Probably not. But they have gone out of their way to be as safe as they can. There are so many rules about what you can and can't do. They're watching you all the time. If you even look like you're going to step out of a [safe] area, they use an intercom to tell you to get back. We got a big safety lecture like, "Don't eat things just 'cause they look like food; don't pick up interesting looking birds or animals because a lot of them are lethal." They tell us, "Please take it seriously if you start to feel like you have the flu and immediately tell someone ... because it could be dengue fever." [Laughs.]
