The Internet has been all atwitter since Dominic Monaghan, aka the dearly departed Charlie Pace on Lost, showed up in a new ABC promo. In it, Dominic/Charlie is playing Foosball with current and upcoming ABC stars, including Patrick Dempsey from Grey's Anatomy and Courteney Cox from the upcoming Cougar Town. Jason Hughes theorizes that this could very well mean that Monaghan is returning to Lost next season.

This of course, is not out of the realm of possibility: death, after all, rarely means goodbye on Lost. On the other hand, it's not unheard of for stars who have exited the island to find themselves on other ABC shows (see: Harold Perrineau on The Unusuals). So which is it? Well, that crafty cad Michael Ausiello thinks he has the answer. See what spoilers ABC execs shared with him after the jump.

According to Ausiello, ABC execs told him that the real reason Monaghan is in that ABC promo isn't because he's returning to the island, but because he's joining another hour-long drama on the network. ABC wants to keep it a surprise, so we're not sure which show it is, or even if it's a new or returning series. So you know what that means, right? It's time for wild speculation!

Personally, I'm putting my money on Grey's Anatomy. It's a large ensemble show that just may have a slot opening up sooner rather than later. Maybe it's the shaved head, but Monaghan is looking a little ... sickly in that promo. Could he be a patient? I would say no, mainly because patients generally don't become series regulars. However, if he's a patient who is also a doctor, who perhaps endears himself to the staff of Seattle Grace during his stay and happens to need a new place to hang his scrubs once he recovers from whatever his ailment happens to be; well that could work.

Of course, if you want to go with a completely insane theory, you could take the fact that he has a shaved head as an indication that he'll be playing George O'Malley next season after T.R. Knight leaves. There have been people on the Internet who are saying that due to the extent of O'Malley's injuries, Grey's could bring on another actor entirely to play that character going forward. I don't actually think this is the case, mind you, but wouldn't it be kind of amazing if it were? It's not very often that we get to see a show go so completely and swiftly off the deep end -- I think it would be exciting.
