Watch the first twelve minutes of Virtuality

by Brad Trechak, posted Jun 16th 2009 8:02PM
Ron MooreFox has posted the first twelve minutes of the pilot (and possibly only) episode of Ron Moore's new series Virtuality. The mastermind behind the revamped Battlestar Galactica could stand a little more respect from Fox. On the other hand, at least they're giving us twelve minutes of the show so we can judge for ourselves.

Frankly, the show should have been taken by SyFy considering how much marketing effort they gave to Battlestar Galactica. On the other hand, they already have Caprica coming up (which undoubtedly will get more respect than Fox will give Virtuality) so they might consider that single show to be "Moore" than enough.

This series represents a chance for Moore to tell holodeck stories that he couldn't tell during his run on the Star Trek franchise. Tune in on June 26th on Fox (unless you have something else to do on Friday night. In which case put it on the DVR) if you want the chance of having "Moore" of this. Ha! I kill me.

Hmmm.....can't wait to hear the buzz from fellow DragonCon* folk about this one. Wonder if they'll create bumpers for it to air on ConTV?
So far it's eerily unsettling; at first the virtual predator was rather predictable, but now he's scuffed-up and done BAD things to our fav pesudo-Japanese-punk rocker!(Say it ain't so, batman!)- she was the one that I thought would be safe for the entire trip...in a kinda-sorta big-eyed, kitty sorta-kinda way.
There is potential for meat-y-ness; can the script and actors pull off the darkness-loving-yet-primetime-appropriate storyline? Is America ready for a same-sex astronaut couple? Do I even want to imagine my spouse could have a virtual affair involving someone with whom I will be 'canned-up' for ten years? (How does one break-up in a virtual relationship?)
... and what kind of costumes will this generate for Con-lovers???
If the show makes it onto network, I can use the 'hull-cam' shots for potty-breaks! (hope, at last!)

Looks like a show I would watch, which pretty much guarantees it would be cancelled within a year.

If this is the first 12 minutes... It is incredibly disjointed. If it is just 12 minutes of clips, that makes more sense.

I'd still bet on a failure of the Dollhouse variety.

Other places that have posted this call it "12 minutes of clips" (note the plural). That is obviously more accurate than this claim that it's the first 12 minutes.

After having watched, I see why Fox changed this from a pilot to a movie. This is not in any sense a Fox-style series. It takes itself much too seriously and has dialogue that is too intelligent.

It looks promising.

Dear Ron Moore,

Please come back to Star Trek. Please resurrect the universe that you so carefully helped create.

A Star Trek Fan
