Spike Jonze and David Cross take on British comedy

david crossThere's no doubt that the names Spike Jonze and David Cross usually belong on the quirkier side of the entertainment world, but I still never would have expected something like this. Apparently, the two have created a comedy pilot for Channel 4. That's right: a British comedy.

The show, called The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret, will be co-written by Cross and Shaun Pye (you may know him as Andy's smarmy nemesis on BBC/HBO's Extras) and star Cross, Will Arnett and Spike Jonze.

There seems to be limited information available on the production, but I'm super-curious to find out if Spike Jonze is really going to be one of the on-screen stars of this show; I'm used to him being a strictly behind-the-scenes guy.

I also have my fingers crossed that he will have at least a little contribution in the actual production of the show, when it comes to style. Television in the UK seems to be a lot more open to experimental or unique styles (see: Green Wing, The Office, Peep Show) and it would be really interesting to see what Jonze can do for the small screen.

The pilot has been shot and will air some time in December, according to Cross. From the synopsis, it sounds like a pretty straightforward comedy about US/UK culture clashing, but with the brains of these guys running everything, it will definitely be much, much more.

Jonez is a good and very funny actor (see "Three Kings" for proof). It would be great to see him on screen for a change, especially alongside someone as amazing as Cross.
