Michael Jackson coverage will continue this weekend

Michael JacksonSince Michael Jackson died two days ago, TV and radio stations have been busy with around the clock news coverage, specials about the King of Pop, and even non-stop playing of Jackson songs and videos. More special programming is planned this weekend, and AOL has a list of what we'll see.

This morning at 10:30, E! will have the special Michael & Farrah: Lost Icons (good for them to include Farrah, whose death was overshadowed by bad timing). At 8 tonight (and Sunday), CNN will have Man in the Mirror, followed by a rerun of Larry King Live coverage and interviews about Jackson's death. At 10, The Bio Channel will air Bio Remembers: Michael Jackson.

MTV will air Jackson videos and specials all weekend long, including A Celebration of Michael Jackson on MTV, which seems like a redundant title to use since the special is on MTV and that's what they're focusing on this weekend anyway. And VH-1 will air Jackson videos all weekend long.

The coverage won't stop this weekend, of course. Besides all the stuff that the cable news channels will have, FOX will air the two-hour American Idol episode where the contestants sang Jackson songs. It airs Monday at 8PM.

How interesting that, at least in death, Michael and Farrah will be linked forever. (If I recall, Jackie Gleason and Ricky Nelson also died on the same day.)

The last two days, no matter where you were in the world, if you looked at a newspaper or turned on a TV, you saw the face of Michael Jackson. On Friday night's half-hour broadcast of "NBC Nightly News" host Brian Williams spent three minutes discussing news other than Michael Jackson.

Now that the shock has warn off, fans are celebrating Jackson's life, rather than mourning his death. News of possible drug use is surfacing in the Jackson case, and to fill the time, reporters are now discussing his financial empire, which is in disarray. But we already new that.

The news media is now finding time to devote to other matters: the economy, unrest in Iran, global warming, Bernie Madoff, and Gov. Mark Sanford, the wacky Republican governor from South Carolina, who disappeared for most of last week. His Wednesday news conference caused a media frenzy, but the Michael Jackson news temporarily saved him from media scrutiny. Now he's back. We all love a good scandal.

This onslaught of MJ news and shows are insane, he was laughed at more often than not while alive now in death he's been granted Sainthood and everyone is his biggest fan! I'm sorry he has died but does every news cast and every tv channel have to keep up the ghoulish sycophantic barrage? I'm turning off the tv for at least a month till this blows over. Any country that wanted to could declare war on us and we wouldn't even notice until the toxicology tests came in.
