What should you expect from the new TV shows coming this fall? Read our first impressions of Fox's 'Sons of Tucson' ...
Note: This is not a review, merely our first impression of an unfinished product. A show can go through many changes between the pilot stage and its official broadcast debut.
'Sons of Tucson'
Premise: What do you do when your mom's out of the picture, your dad is in jail for a white-collar crime and you want a fresh start, without any drama? If you're the Gunderson brothers, you hire a new dad.
Cast: Tyler Labine, Davis Cleveland, Frank Dolce, Troy Gentile, Natalie Martinez
What Works: 'Tucson' takes the title for most unconventional "family" on TV, with Labine ('Reaper') playing Ron Snuffkin, the dad for hire who's just as scheming as the kids. The quick-witted, no-nonsense middle child Gary (Dolce) is the standout here.
What Doesn't: The whole premise is just a little sad. And, yes, a tad creepy. If they don't establish soon that Ron isn't a bumbling idiot -- and prove that he has more common sense than the three boys, ages 13, 11 and 8 -- child protective services (aka the network) might be forced to shut this operation down.
Our Excitement Level (Out of 10): 5
Premiere Date: Sundays at 8:30PM EST, starting January 2010
