Excuse me? Daria finally coming to DVD

daria logoThank the late-90s gods for the existence of Daria and praise be to the supernatural entities responsible for DVDs. For the first time ever, Daria will be available on DVD.

We feared it couldn't be done, but it's going to happen! I can hear sour-faced now-20-somethings celebrating now. Yes, they're quiet, but they're definitely excited. Keep it cool, guys, keep it cool.

MTV will soon release another highly anticipated DVD set for their sketch comedy show, The State, and it looks like one of the first things DVD owners will see is an ad for a 2010 Daria release. TVonDVD.com even has a little screencap and everything.

I can't even begin to express how excited I am to own a legit and legal copy of the show, even though I'm pretty worried about any music sacrifices that may have been made. I know one of the main reasons why the show wasn't released on DVD sooner was because of the infinite number of songs that were used in each episode, creating a music licensing nightmare. The songs were incredibly important to the quality of the show; I still distinctly remember being struck by moments as brief as Daria fantasizing about Trent with Pulp's "This Is Hardcore" playing in the background.

I think I'm going to go put on my Doc Martens and look surly to celebrate.

Woot! Woot! As a fan of Daria, the Craft, and My So-Called Life, my inner 90s mini-flowerdress child is crying out in celebration.

I had such a weird crush on Trent. And I still get random songs from Daria! The Musical in my head.
