Does Heroes need more lesbians?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 6th 2009 6:30PM
Hayden PanettiereNot that Heroes is overflowing with lesbians now, but one of the plots that might be coming up this season is Claire getting romantically involved with her new college roommate, played by Rachel Melvin.

Michael Ausiello reports that, yes, Claire and the show are definitely going in that direction, though it's impossible to say how far the storyline will go. We all remember what happened when they hinted that Claire's first season best bud Zach was gay.

Can this be considered a power? It could lead to a whole new tagline for the show: Save the lesbian cheerleader, save the world.

Are you kidding me?

Every film, play, television show and fashion shoot needs more lesbians. I hope Madeline Zima's character is the anti-L WORD lesbian: a smart, funny, sexy, sophisticated woman who intelligently manages her life without the self-destructive baggage of smoking, substance abuse and serial "wrong for each other" toxic romantic relationships.

Love ya, Madeline.

Why do we need to go lesbian? There's no need. Try writing better plots, or stories or whatever!

Heroes doesn't need a lesbian plot. What it needed to do was stop killing or writing off all of the women on the show.

Let's see.... The speedy chick is gone, mirror personality chick is gone, ice chick is gone, lightning chick is gone, black eye death chick is gone, comic book superhero chick is gone, and fire chick is gone. I'm pretty sure I'm missing some.

Now we are left with old Petrelli and midget Petrelli.

Gawd!

I need a "Heroes free" feed. This is getting more moronic than any reality-TV show...

I say either commit or get out. These sort of stunt storylines really tick me off. And I can't really see Heroes writing this as anything with substance.

The fact that this leaned so much before they start airing the episodes tell me that it's a stunt. If they wanted to do it proper, they would have been more careful about leaking the storyline and just let it happen without buzz, maybe then I would have been a bit more accepting. But this just smells like a stunt. Ugh.

If you gonna have her be a lesbian, then write it proper with a proper, well developed storyline and not this kind of stunt crap.

ugh! yet another faux lesbian act!? no wonder people never take gay people seriously. this is just another straight-male fantasy that these dumbass writers think their young male target demo want to watch, but always failed miserably in execution.
for a show to be having crisis like "how to save Heroes" every time before the season (and mid-season) started, it seems to me that it is a trainwreck that has passed the point of no return.

I think it all depends on how the execute it. Obviously this seems not just a ploy to gain back viewers but stealing an idea from "Buffy", and I'm sure there were plenty of people who intially got upset when Willow switched teams. After awhile though people learned to either accept it or move on. Then again if Claire is going to be bi-curious for two episodes and share an on screen kiss and then never mention it again then it will come across as just a cheap ploy for ratings.

Agreed, another OC spin. I hate when they do this sort of thing, they never go all the way with it, it's once scene, one kiss and the girl is 'normal' once again in the next scene. I'm guessing it's a ploy or a shout out to many people who thought Claire and Elle could have made a couple. Either way Claire needs to grow up this season, either join the fight or gain another power so she can join the fight. She is just so limited in what she can do compared to the others. Only Suresh is more boring with his temporary powers.

If it gets one person who gave up on the show to watch it again...well, that's more than the lousy writing and ridiculous characterizations will ever do. What a cheap, obvious ploy. Like putting a Borg character in a tight catsuit.

I think it's a stupid stunt. Claire has all the sexuality of a gummi bear and kissing another girl won't fix that. Since the show chose to bring back useless Ali Larter AGAIN (and now she'll be constantly wet and naked) I imagine the horny writers thinking to make Claire interesting is just have her makeout with another hot girl.

The answer to the question "does [whatever] need more lesbians" is always yes. No exceptions.
