Dan Patrick taking his radio show to DIRECTV

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Jul 7th 2009 11:00AM
Dan Patrick is getting ready to host a new talkshow on DIRECTV.Dan Patrick is taking his radio talk show to TV. Unlike his former ESPN comrade Keith Olbermann, Patrick will thankfully be sticking to sports.

Beginning Monday, August 3rd, The Dan Patrick Show will air weekday mornings from 9 AM to noon ET/PT on DIRECTV's 101 Network.

According to the network, the show will boast "an unpredictable, anything-can-happen format that will use Patrick's trademark humor and interaction with his production staff to create a unique blend of situational comedy and sports radio commentary."

In other words, he's just going to stick a camera in front of his radio show. And, considering that show is nationally syndicated across the U.S. and Canada -- including Sirius and XM satellite radio -- you can't blame him for staying with what works.

Patrick was one half of perhaps the most popular duo ever to present Sportscenter -- alongside Olbermann. The pair's evening highlight fest was called "The Big Show" and included endless shtick. After the pair split, Patrick stuck to sports at ESPN and (eventually) Sports Illustrated, while Olbermann stumbled from job to job until he convinced MSNBC viewers that really hating George W. Bush made him an insightful politico.

Though sometimes suffering from the same smug preachiness that plagues anyone associated with ESPN programming, Patrick is much more self-effacing than Olbermann. You could never imagine Patrick droning on about congressional investigations with a straight face or having the unmitigated snot to steal Edward R. Murrow's legendary tag-line ("Good night and good luck.")

For those paying attention, the information in this article is relegated to the second paragraph.

All the rest of it is pointless filler and ESPN & Olbermann hate.

Thanks, TVSquad!

Hey great job of reporting, I think it's ALWAYS a journalist's job to inject his opinion and politics into an article. Fool.

My thoughts exactly, what does bashing Olbermann have to do with reporting about Patrick's show being aired on DirecTV?
