Weeds: Van Nuys
(S05E05) "These are very dark waters you're swimming in, even for you." - Andy to NancyWell, hmmm ... just when we all thought Nancy had gone completely over the edge and was unredeemable, she brings it back a little and becomes a mom again. ("I can't live like this anymore! Shane was a good kid! Now he's robbing his teacher!").
So she makes Shane go apologize for shaking down his English teacher (hey, the guy deserved it for driving off with Shane's weed) and shooting his bird. And then she goes all mama-bear by cutting off the teacher's air supply after he pushes Shane down.
The guy's a jerk. Give Shane back his weed! I'm sorry the bird got caught in the crossfire, though. I'm sure no birds were harmed in the making of this episode.
Crap. Just when I thought Nancy and Andy were going to drive off into the sunset and escape the evil clutches of Esteban, it goes the other way and she and Shane end up moving in with Esteban. Does she really like the guy? Or is she just afraid he'll come after her (which, of course, he will)? Would she seriously consider an abortion, or as Andy puts it, "go to Van Nuys"? (Or as he also puts it, "You've gotta abort that gopher, Nance!") After all, she's buying herbs and reprimanding a pregnant woman for eating processed food in the waiting area. She must care something about the baby.
There wasn't a whole lot of Doug and Silas in this episode, and I'm sad about that, because they're always pretty funny. But Doug did manage to throw a few one-liners in there as he and Silas were setting up shop and meeting with The Wizard. "I think I'm slightly retarded in the mouth," says Doug after he and Silas hurl insults and then hug it out.
Celia: What a big, whiny baby. Get a grip, girl. I'm sure there must be some other place for you to stay besides Nancy's garage with Sucio chilling in the freezer. Then again, you've pretty much broken every semblance of a bridge you've ever had in your life, so I guess you deserve to hang with a dead Mexican. And you know what? I doubt those pictures she took of the acid-clean-up guys would hold any water. She's done plenty of things Nancy could counter with.
Amazing how even with all the stuff going on in her life, Nancy still manages to wear some kick-ass shoes. Awesome.
Oh, and Andy does a pretty good impression of Judah, but ewww, having to do that whack-job chick on the beach amidst all those homeless guys. [shudder] Hey, at least he got the money, and we got this line he said to Nancy later: "I need a shower. I need to be sandblasted. I need a hug."
I guess I should mention Alanis Morissette as Nancy's obstetrician, but that's about all I can do. Her part wasn't really pivotal or anything.
Overall, I really liked this episode and look forward to seeing what happens now that Nancy's moved in with Esteban. I'm sure it won't be smooth sailing. I fully expect Andy to ride in on a white horse (covered with weed, of course).
