Back to high school for the new Big Brother

by Jackie Schnoop, posted Jul 8th 2009 6:06PM
Big Brother's new logo sans season numberI really don't want to go back to high school cliques, do you? I suppose if you were in with the in crowd, your memories are all fluffy puppies and smiles. For many folks, high school cliques meant teen angst. And, no one has as much angst as a teenager!

When Big Brother 11 executive producer Allison Grodner promised this season would have a twist with which everyone can relate, I figured she'd go for the sexual conquest route once again. After all, she seems a bit fixated on "hot" eye-candy and hamster hook-ups. But this seems totally different.

The house is being split into four cliques: populars, athletes, brainiacs, and off-beats, oh my. Who will be in which group? What are the rumors about the 13th mystery houseguest? Read on ... beware, there may be spoilers ahead.

According to many sources, Reality BBQ often being the most reliable as it seems an actual Big Brother staffer drops by there and tells secrets, the cliques are as follows:
  • Brainiacs: Ronnie, Michelle, Chima
  • Athletes: Natalie, Russell, Jeff
  • Populars: Laura, Braden, Jordan
  • Off-Beats: Lydia, Kevin, Casey
There is a lot of speculation regarding the mystery houseguest and whether that should be "houseguests." Apparently several past hamsters have gone missing as of late. The most popular concensus on the internet is that the mystery hamster is either Brian Hart or Jessie Godderz, both from BB10. Supposedly it's someone who will bring drama into the house. Um. Okay. I'm so not keen on previous houseguests returning to the show. Do you want to see some come back? If so, who would make you a happy hamster watcher?

The possible inside source at Reality BBQ shared some details from the first night makes it sound like each clique gets a mystery hamster. "The first HOH will be a former HG. Each clique is assigned one. The HG don't know who they're getting. Who are they? One of them had a showmance. Another was almost an All Star." Curiouser and curiouser, eh? I should also note that he compared Casey to Mike Boogie, something I feared.

Big Brother premieres Thursday night at 8 PM ET/PT with the live feeds going live sometime after midnight on the East Coast. Julie Chen is slated to be on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson tonight. I doubt we'll see much insight from her, but I'll be watching anyway. As for the high school clique idea, I'll try to have an open mind. The ones on the show aren't quite what I had in high school. We had jocks, greasers, freaks, and geeks. I just wanted to escape it all and go off to college.

From the bios, I'm already referring to Braden as "Zoolander" ;-)

Lisa, from Season 3, was almost an all-star and I bet she is going to help the "popular" team.

Good to see you back for another BB season, Jackie. Nobody does this as well and as witty as you do!
With those choices I have to say I was in the brainiac group, being in the college-prep path. I wanted to be in the popular group but didn't have the skills yet!

When I took a facebook quiz related to this subject, I got "loner," which is not amenable to a stay in the BB House.

We had no cliques in my wild-country mountain high school. There were 20 girls and 10 boys in my graduating class, and everybody in class was related to everybody else, if not by blood, then by marriage ("my sister married her brother" kind of thing). You don't get competition or cliques in that environment.
