Believe it or not, 80s TV icon William "The Great American Hero" Katt is co-producing and publishing the first motion comic book with lip-synch for the iPhone and iPod Touch.Katt cartwheeled his behind through the skies over the head of Robert Culp for three seasons on Great American Hero. But, in 2008, he handed in the super suit and became a publisher.
Katt's Catastrophic Comics is publishing Sparks, a "superhero noir thriller," voiced by actors Michael Paré (Eddie and the Cruisers), Michael Bell (Transformers), Charlie Brill (Star Trek) and Ashley Bell (United States of Tara).
Motion comics are a medium rapidly catching on through iTunes, web TV series and other download services. Using simple, cut-out animation taking directly from graphic novels, comic books can come to life via talented voice actors. The Warner Bros. production of the Watchmen motion comic was groundbreaking. Animated exploits of Batman and Superman soon followed.
But, Sparks is the first effort to get characters' mouths moving with their voices. Monthly episodes sell for .99 cents via iTunes. That's the going rate for most outings in this growing genre.
Readers are welcome to suggest what comics, TV or movie franchises they'd like to see emerge in motion comics form in the comments section.
