Weeds: A Modest Proposal

Weeds - A Modest Proposal

(S05E06) "I've decided that we will get married." - Esteban to Nancy

Anyone know Spanish and can translate what that gal said to Esteban at the end of this episode? Because him proposing to Nancy sure seemed like a done deal -- well, as much as a done deal could be with him giving her a faux engagement ring that turned out to be the champion ring from the soccer team he owns, and then giving her the REAL ring later.

I would have been royally ticked at that lame proposal. But Nancy seemed to go for it. And then the babe rant came along at the end and the deal's off. What the heck? Maybe he's still married?

I thought maybe I'd missed an ep or two. Nancy's so big now! And Andy's got that lame Geico caveman beard going, playing Ms. Pac Man, blowing all his dough and buying the General Lee. Does Nancy not see that Andy is the only guy for her? The only guy who can even come close to matching her wit and sarcasm?

Oh well, the way things are going, looks like they'll have another shot at love ... or whatever it is they're headed for. And I appreciated Andy's Luke Skywalker impression while fencing with Esteban.

That Ignacio's a real character, isn't he? Helping Shane skip out, then beating up a golfer. Maybe Shane's starting to get a clue that being an angry Mexican tough-guy isn't such a cool thing.

Still not feeling the Celia storyline, but whatever. I'm a little amused that she's killing her feet in high heels while working at Super Sneakers in the mall. We'll see where the "You're Pretty" storyline goes.

The highlight of this episode was definitely Doug getting spray-tanned by Isabelle and riffing off his "What would George Hamilton do?" spiel. "I need the tan. I need the deep, dark tan." And "The man slept with his stepmother when he was 12 years old. Clearly, he can do anything."

That kind of logic is hard to argue with.

Season four sucked but this season is more than making up for it. Except for the pregnancy. I hate that storyline in any show. But I immediately thought we had seen the mystery woman before and that she was his wife. But after seeing all the news sites, I guess I made it up :)

Love this season - it started a bit dark, but has come good since....real good!

Wow, way to turn on a blogger, guys!

I missed the first few seconds of the show, but figured yeah, it obviously must have jumped ahead a ways.

Dan - I feel like I'm 16 most of the time, so ... thanks.

Chris - We're paid, but not nearly as much as you might think. Still, I think watching the show and hammering out a few notes is worth a cuppa joe. (Note: My server went down, so had to write it up at 6 a.m. this morning.)

David - No translation from me, but that's why I have you guys.

Sommery - Yeah, definitely makes sense. I figured that's pretty much what was said.

Youston, Sommery - Thanks for posting the translation without bashing the reviewer. Love you guys. :-)

It does help to have the translations. I'm sure that it will all be explained next week, but the comments above did a pretty good job and were pretty close. Obviously this woman is the power and the money behind Estaban, and a baby and marriage with a Gringa would be a bad things for him.
I was worried when I saw "6 Month's Later." A sure sign of shark jumping, but I thought it was actually a pretty good episode, and they saved us from the boring stuff.

maybe you should have had somebody translate the end scene before you tried to review the episode.

Here's the translation:

"You loved me good, until you got your BOY with her. But Marry her? Are you crazy? All the eyes of Mexico will be on you. All my hopes, my effort, my money, my time - I put into YOU?
You should have killed the f-in white b*tch when you had the chance! What I'm saying is you have to choose between me and the white woman."

Makes much more sense now, huh?

What do you believe you are doing eh? You were already going far, dont you think (?) You had to have an adventure with a pincha gringa? It's fine that you have to have a son with her. But to marry her? Are you crazy? All eyes in Mexico are on you. All of my hopes, my effort, my money and my time are invested in you. (I think it says here: You would have killed the $lutty pincha gringa when...
Are you saying that I have to choose between you and Nancy?
No, Esteban. I am saying you have to choose between yourself and her

Really bad episode. If the show hasn't jumped the shark, it's surely lost it's grounding.

Weeds hasn't made me laugh since Albert Brooks' 3 episodes.

Are they still paying off Lenny? Hey maybe Brooks will be back.

Which show are you watching? Everyone I know thinks this is the best Weeds season since #2. So much is going on and the future is completely clouded. I think the show is great still, I definitely find myself disappointed when the show ends, not because it wasn't good enough, but because it's coming to an end and I have to wait another week to see more.

That being said, this is a terrible review. Very poorly written, not at all researched and incomplete. Not a single mention of Silas and his Pot Shop? Don't you think that standing up to the cop was a pretty major development? Not only that, but it's written in a way that sounds like something a 16-year-old girl would write on her Myspace blog.

Seriously, I can't believe you get paid to write this crap. You didn't even notice the "Six Months Later"...how did you get this job?

Great show, entertaining episode...HORRIBLE REVIEW.
