The Mole's last hurrah?

A mole contestant falls off the edgeIn a last hurrah, The Mole was nominated for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music in the Emmys. Like Pushing Daises, we'll probably never see The Mole on ABC again. The nomination had to be one of those, "well, we really don't have any other better options" decisions.

The show's intro was probably the best new reality opening theme of the past year. The only other reality theme I could remember was Stylista's and only because it was a pastiche of girly shopping.

Can The Mole challenge the southern rock of Sons of Anarchy, the jazzy Storymakers intro, the classical Great Performances or The Polyphonic Spree for the United States of Tara? It depends on the voting community. I would personally prefer the James Bond espionage theme over the others, but I love the animated sketches of Storymakers.

Last year, CBS's train wreck Pirate Master won and the chances of that show returning is nil. It competed against other canceled shows like Kid Nation and Cantebury's Law and was probably a retcon for Survivor not winning in 2001.

I personally prefer the original Mole theme back when Anderson Cooper was host, but I think that any positive news for the show is good. Here's the nominated opening to the fifth season:

Even if The Mole wins, it probably won't be the catalyst of a return like The Amazing Race's Emmy run. The show is good, the premise is interesting, and the score was always fun to listen to. Do you think The Mole will win? Do you even remember The Mole? Leave comments below.
