Craig Ferguson on why everything sucks

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 23rd 2009 2:29PM
I'll give Craig Ferguson credit, he really is doing monologues in a different way. This clip from the opening of Tuesday night's show isn't your typical joked-filled opening, it's more of an essay. Ferguson talks about why everything sucks, and it has to do with you damn kids.

Craig has been on the Nielsen-ratings for quite a while now. I guess basically he is told time and time again that his show has lots and lots of viewers 54 and older but those simply don't count because supposedly these people won't change their buying habits anymore and therefor aren't interesting enough for the advertisers, and they are the customers of CBS (and any other network).

Fun thing though is that, as much as I like Craig, this sounds like the ramblings of an old geezer angry about the fact that what he does isn't regarded as valuable anymore. I love his show but it seems they are really laying some pressure on him to change his demographic, which to him seems to be totally silly and I understand him perfectly because it's the old people who have money, the whole first world is getting older and older and it's just stupid to only cater to the younger audience members. I mean by definition who 14 to 49 is up that late anyway?

Somebody should really kill the Nielsen ratings. They outlived themselves.

I just started watching his show this june and the he can just riff on one subject for so long instead of just one joke on each subject is brilliant i wish more late night tv was like his show, while i'll always be a fan of conan i wish he put more spontaneity in his show

I have the same sleep problem. CBS needs to re-broadcast his show during the day or early evening. Craig is sharp and funny and cute. His philosophical rants are priceless and his musical openings are hysterical. I love how he sneaks up on the camera.

His monologues are why I am sleep deprived EVERY DAY! They are smart, funny, insightful and, from what I read, for the most part ad libbed. Craig is the man.
And he has cute knees.

get yourself a pvr buddy, I end up watching way more tv, but I also get to go to bed when I want to.

I'm really liking his monologues, the other guys just rattle off a bunch of one liners and usually only manage to get one good joke in twenty minutes.
