Spartacus gets fake dongs, but not Hung?

Thomas Jane in HungI love how blunt executive producer Steven DeKnight is about the usage of a male prosthetic on his new Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, as Joel mentioned in his report last night . "Some guys aren't as well-endowed as other guys," he says. I wonder if they were inspired by Watchmen, or made to feel comparatively inadequate to Dr. Mammoth.

What's odd to me is that while Spartacus has put thought into the fact that male nudity is a part of their world and addressed it in this manner, no one has come up with a prosthetic for Thomas Jane in Hung over at HBO. Isn't his dong the centerpiece of the whole show? Or maybe he doesn't need one *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*.

I'm not saying that fans of the show want to see him strutting around in the buff all the time, but it seems that it should be seen at some point just to establish what all the fuss is about. Even Boogie Nights broke down and showed one shot of Dirk's dangler. Or maybe they're working on the notion that the imagination is better than any reality they could create.

We're at an interesting time in regards to male nudity in our visual entertainment. Is it going more mainstream after it's starring role in Watchmen? Now it's getting a featured role on a television series. Will male celebrities think they have to go in and get penis implants now to improve their chances of getting the "sexy lead" part in upcoming films?

If Ron Jeremy starts getting all the good parts, I'm quitting television.

After just watching 22 hours straight of the absolutely incredible show "rome" made by HBO, I tried to watch sparticus. Sparticus is the fakest looking, computer generated garbage imaginable. If you are a 12 to 15 year old male, you might like it. I could barely force my self to make it through an episode. Complete Hollywood garbage.

Why should male actors have to show their penises in mainstream movies or on cable TV? Women don't show THEIR full genitalia! All we ever see of women are boobs. On rare occassions we might see a flash of bush, but NEVER a woman's actual genitalia (the clitoris and labia). Why should the male sex organ be revealed while the female sex organ is always kept hidden? How come there have been several TV series (like OZ, Queer as Folk, Rome, Six Feet Under, etc) that have shown actors penises, but not a single one that has clearly shown the VAGINA? Why can the entire sexual anatomy of men be shown but not women? If men have to show their cocks and balls, then women should have to start showing their vaginas and anuses!

I can not believe people are so sad they feel the need to post crap like this. Seriously if you're that desperate to see the inner gubins of a woman's muff get yourself a porn film as you are clearly one frustrated individual. Better still get yourself a partner

You missed the point. You can show a buff, chisel-chested man topless anywhere on TV (in the U.S.) but not women. You can show a man's genitals in adult-oriented movies and shows, why not a woman's? Women claim to be over-exposed, objectified, and sexualized, but clearly more male flesh can be shown in mainstream TV and Movies.

Speaking as a now-diehard fan of the show, I hope they will never show Ray's equipment. Reaction shots from even the most jaded of women are sufficient to attest to the veracity of the show's title, and leave the exercise to the viewer's imagination in terms of establishing exact measurements.

I would further suggest that Ray's dick is in no way the centerpiece of this series. I mean, yes, bawdy double meaning for the title, yes, the pilot employed shot after shot of cheap visual slapstick (beer bottles, brooms, etc.), but once I knew the premise and saw the set-up, I understood that he's hung up in life, caught up in insecurities, all of the more downcast connotations in the word "hung".

I have high hopes for this series. I'm a fellow sex worker (phone sex), and I really appreciate the matter-of-fact approach that the characters are taking to launching what is, to the rest of society, a very problematic career. And already we're getting to see that Ray's magnificent member is not the only thing he's bringing to the party, so lots of ground to explore there.

P.S. I found your blog through one of those automated wordpress links that showed up on my blog, Cameryn Moore, Phone Whore. NOT a solicitation site, just my thoughts from the trenches...

Ron Jeremy? He's entertaining as hell. I'd watch a series starring him.

I think Hung will always refrain from showing Jane's penis, as it's just funnier to use your imagination to think of how ridiculously large it is, depending on the situation and reaction.

Fake penises? Seriously! What actor wants to wear that on a regular basis? Not to mention, sharing it with other men!! I mean, if you're that insecure about your equipment, perhaps you shouldn't be part of series that will feature full frontal nudity.

I'm not sure if actors are going to be clamoring to share their equipment with the every Tom, Dick, and Harry (yes, I said that), but what does it really matter? It's a penis; some are bigger, some are smaller, most are just average. I mean, women have been baring all for decades, why not men as well?

I don't know one mainstream movie or show where women have bared all. I have never seen a full view of a woman's genitalia outside of porn. If you have an example, please let me know what it is. Otherwise, your statement was false.
