'Mercy' on NBC - New TV Pilot Preview
Premise: Nurse Veronica Callahan is easing back into life after returning from a tour of duty in Iraq. At Mercy Hospital, she's ignored by doctors, even when she knows more than they do. And at home, she's trying to salvage her marriage -- only to find the surgeon she fell for in Iraq just joined the Mercy staff.

Note: This is not a review, merely our first impression of an unfinished product. A show can go through many changes between the pilot stage and its official broadcast debut.

Premise: Nurse Veronica Callahan is easing back into life after returning from a tour of duty in Iraq. At Mercy Hospital, she's ignored by doctors, even when she knows more than they do. Cast: Taylor Schilling, James Tupper, Michelle Trachtenberg, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Kate Mulgrew
What Works: The cast is decent, the writing is decent, the premise is decent. Everything's decent, but ...
What Doesn't: ... We've seen this show. Many, many times. It's 'Grey's Anatomy' -- with nurses! It's 'Nurse Jackie' ... but darker! It's 'HawthoRNe' ... but ... well, actually, exactly like it. That's not necessarily 'Mercy's' fault, but then again, it's also neither groundbreaking nor staggeringly excellent. So, sorry, but last one to get on air sort of loses.
Our Excitement Level (Out of 10): 5
Premiere Date: Wed., Sept. 23, 8PM ET on NBC
Editor's note: 'Mercy' replaces 'Parenthood' on NBC's fall schedule. The latter show was delayed to cast member's illness.
