Breaking TCA News: Chandra Wilson Checks Into 'Private Practice'

I wasn't expecting to get much serious breaking news from today's set visit to ABC's 'Private Practice' -- boss Shonda Rhimes tends to keep show secrets just that.

Maybe something was in the air. Maybe the sight of a bus full of (already exhausted) TCA members trekking across town to come play warmed her heart. Whatever it was, Rhimes decided to dish a little 'Private Practice' season 3 scoop: Chandra Wilson (a.k.a. 'Grey's Anatomy''s own Miranda Bailey) will be visiting Oceanside Wellness in the season's third episode.

Whatever it was, Rhimes decided to dish a little 'Private Practice' season 3 scoop: Chandra Wilson (a.k.a. 'Grey's Anatomy''s own Miranda Bailey) will be visiting Oceanside Wellness in the season's third episode.

After wandering in to join the fun where Rhimes and show producers were holding court, I asked the question on everyone's mind: Will there be another 'Grey's Anatomy'/'Private Practice' crossover? Apparently I wasn't the first one to ask. (Hey -- it was still on the minds of fans not in that room!)

Rhimes kindly repeated the big "ta-dah!," adding that Bailey will visit Los Angeles to help Addison on a very interesting procedure. Part of her continuing pediatrics education, perhaps? Love it.

One follow-up I chose to save for you all to ponder: We know Bailey will be her usual outspoken self, but who here thinks things might get a little heated with her and Sam (Taye Diggs)? They seemed very playfully flirty when he visited Seattle Grace last season, and from the sound of things, Sam and Naomi (Audra McDonald) are staying separated for a while.
