Adam West returns to the Batman franchise

batman adam westI'm sure some of you would like to forget about the campy '60s Batman TV show starring Adam West and Burt Ward as corny comic book crime fighters. Me? I love it.

I grew up watching reruns of the show, and its goofy blend of cartoon-y action, aw-shucks charm and over-the-top acting still makes me smile. Cartoon Network's great Batman: The Brave and the Bold is heavily influenced by the '60s series, and some episodes even feature unabashed references to the old show.

The Brave and the Bold will give another shout-out to its '60s influence with an upcoming episode featuring Adam West as Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas. The ep will feature Batman, voiced by Deidrich Bader, learning that his father once went to a costume party dressed as a bat and roughed-up some mobsters. Julie Newmar, who played Catwoman on the '60s show, will give voice to Bruce Wayne's mother, Martha.

This isn't the first time West has returned to the Bat-franchise after the old series ended in 1968. He voiced Batman in a number of '70s superhero cartoons, including Super Friends, he made voice cameos in the fan favorite Batman: The Animated Series, and he played Gotham City's mayor in The Batman. (The less said about his role in Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt the better.)
