Syfy conspiring with the Mayan calendar for a new mini-series

SyfyAt first glance, it looks like a blend of the forthcoming apocalyptic film 2012, and the mysteries and intrigue of The Da Vinci Code. Syfy is developing a six-hour mini-series inspired by the Mayan calendar; you know, the one that's the inspiration for all that "end of the world in 2012" rhetoric we'll start hearing more and more often.

The untitled project has Brian Singer (The Triangle) attached. but we don't really know much more about it. Let's ask Brian. "Our story will explore whether we are truly alone in the universe, and other related mysteries, all of which are set against the backdrop of an incredibly exciting and fast-paced adventure." Ah, well that clears that up. Thanks.

Considering how The Triangle turned out, I'm thinking we're going to find out the Mayans were actually an ancient alien race that came to our planet long ago, but went into hiding as the Harlem Globetrotters. In our hour of greatest need, they will reveal themselves and perform basketball stunts to warm the world's hearts. We'll chuck our nuclear arsenals into the deepest reaches of space and sing "We Are the World" with our new friends!

Well when a show comes from the SYFY channel, then what else can you expect, something scientific? According to NASA, they are expecting very large solar flares and coronal mass ejections, around that date. Also, since our heliosphere is shrinking at a 'possibly' alarming rate, we could be due for some major gamma and xray ejections, coming through our magnetosphere, seeing how that is also weakening, co incidentally.

We have a higher possibility of earthquakes and volcanic activity, some due to our insatiable appetite for black gold, or Texas tea, as we call oil. Certain studies have concluded that excessive oil drilling can lead to earth quake increase, due to the emptying of massive amount of oil from the ground. Also, Yellowstone is still rising in activity, but I doubt this will be the super volcano people wonder about for that region. The super volcano already happened, that's why the ground in the area is as it is, another one in the exact same area would be very unlikely, bit don't discount a massive eruption that could cause tremendous damage.

Lastly, there is a chance of an asteroid hitting our planet, getting past Jupiter and Saturn. Seeing how scientists did not even know the one that hit Jupiter was going to hit (even while Jupiter is aligned to us,) I doubt they would know when an asteroid will just fly out of any place, and slam us. Hopefully it will be small, so we can all go "ugh, wow!" perhaps, creating a tsunami, or tidal wave, while we watch from a distance.

Our economy could crash, hitting rock bottom after the credit card like stimulus packages are defaulted on, thus the Chinese may decide to get tough on the international stage, creating a series of goverments to collapse. War could be in the forecast if that happens. As Confusious once said, teach a man how to fish vs give the man a fish, the Chinese realized this long ago and have decided to manufacture everything for themselves, so they wouldn't even need US for anything, if they decided.

How does this relate to 2012? Everything is coming to a head. We will be able to reverse the trend, but unfortuantely, we are stuck in our old ways, and therefore will mostly likely do nothing. 2012 is a perfect year to contemplate ahead in time, as to what needs to be changed. Even if nothing celestial or earthly massive happens on that date, something already has happened to bring awareness to our wonderful, yet problemed world. The Maya were right in one way, this will be the end of something already tried, as in war; passing into the collective conciousness of People making a change as heroes bringing peace to a pained Planet!
