I'm so excited about this news from The Office!

The Office - Steve Carell and John KrasinskiReaders of TV Squad know that our fearless editor-in-chief Joel has been at the Television Critics Association press tour, scooping up all the cool news and interviews, and posting them here for all of us to read.

It's a lot of work attending these events; you have to be "on" all the time and not only attend panels, do set visits, conduct interviews, and hob-nob with celebrities, but also write everything up and post it to the site in a timely fashion. I have to give a big shout-out to Joel, because I love seeing all the TCA news coming through.

I'm especially geeked about the news he posted after his set visit to The Office. In case anyone wants to stay spoiler-free (which would be tough regarding this particular news, since it's all over the place and was pretty much a given anyway), I'll post my commentary after the jump.

Jim and Pam are getting married! Jim and Pam are getting married!

And I can't wait! According to Joel's report, the blessed event will take place in the fourth episode of season six, which begins Sept. 17. Of course, we already know -- or rather, we're pretty sure -- that Pam is pregnant, based on the last episode of season five, "Company Picnic."

The Office continues to be fresh and funny, and here's why. Other than the endless storyline possibilities in an office filled with quirky people, the writers have let the characters grow and evolve in a natural way. I'm sure that will continue as Jim and Pam get hitched and kick out a little Jim or Pam.

So many of my favorite scenes have involved these two -- my favorite being when they finally kissed at the end of season two, in "Casino Night." While watching the DVD, my daughter and I played it back several times, because it's just so sweet and awkward and totally romantic.

But Jim and Pam didn't get together right then. After all, Pam was still engaged to Roy. So the writers let them drift apart and find their way back together in a real-life fashion. It took a whole season for them to find their way back to each other, but they did it, at the end of season three in "The Job."

Now I can't wait to see how things develop with the wedding and (possibly) baby. Just the thought of the storylines and reactions from their office-mates is making me giddy. I'm guessing the end of season six will bring ... a baby!

I like situation comedy, which made "The Office" great. I don't like romantic comedy which will kill it, at least for me.

Let's just pause for a minute and think about how amazing it is that the writers were able to delay this wedding until Season 6. That's some clever, long-term writing.

What's the surprise about Jim and Pam getting married? They are engaged, after all. Also, there was that decision not to elope.

Baby = jump the shark. Hello Family Ties, Cosby (Raven Symone) and Growing Pains. The Office was spiraling out of control last year and it seems it's totally lost its way now.

As much as I do love Jim and Pam, I hope they continue the storyline of the marriage between Dwight and Angela. They got married, she was going to have in annulled and we never heard about it again..did that happen? Are they still married?

I'm all pumped for this next season to begin as well, but don't babies usually kill a series?

I think (or at least hope) that The Office is the kind of show that can pull off the addition of a baby without it being awful, since the bulk of the show is their lives at work, and not their personal lives outside work. So we would probably rarely see the kid. I think it might be ok
