MONDAY, AUG. 10
'Cake Boss' (10PM, TLC)
We still love Duff and the 'Ace of Cakes' gang, but New Jersey baker Buddy Valastro is one of the best new surprises of the summer, and watching him in action as the titular head cake maker at Hoboken's Carlos Bakery has been the year's least-guilty pleasure. On the menu in tonight's episode: The Leaning Tower of Pisa, replicated in cake, and a lobster-themed cake that Buddy scrambles to assemble after the client mixes up the date.

No worries, 'Ted' fans ... the show has been renewed for a sophomore season in the ABC line-up. Tonight, we get a doubleheader to close out the impressive first season. First, Linda worries when she hears Veridian is going green, which prompts Ted to create a fake project for her. The glitch: everyone wants to work on the non-working venture. Then, thanks to a Veridian invention, Veronica's secret life is exposed.

And so begins "The Five Lives of Criss Angel," a five-episode event in which the "mystifier" is buried alive in a translucent coffin, with snow and ice piled on to make his escape even tougher. Actually, that's just tonight's opener; Angel also tries to cross a field of live explosives (Aug. 19), levitate a whole audience in Vegas (Aug. 26), defy gravity (Sept. 2) and survive a car crashing ... into him (Sept. 9).

Fans have been blasé about the new cast in the British teen drama's third season, but tonight's episode may change all that. The action revolves around Cook's 17th birthday party, held at his uncle's pub. It's kind of a bore, so when Freddie's sister calls and invites Cook and co. to crash a party, they're in. But the soiree is being thrown by local gangster Johnny White ('The Office' star Mackenzie Crook), who isn't happy with his uninvited guests.

It's a 'Degrassi' movie! When Manny flops during a movie audition, Paige swoops in and lands the role, a lead in a movie by Kevin Smith pal (and 'Degrassi' guest star) Jason Mewes. That sends the whole teen scene to Hollywood, where Paige becomes an insufferable diva and Manny tries to win the role for herself. The made-for-TV flick includes six tunes sung by the cast, and guest spots by Perez Hilton, Kevin Smith and Pete Wentz.
