What You Missed Last Night: Diced Hamm

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 13th 2009 1:31PM
I'm still trying to figure out this dice game that Jon Hamm taught Jimmy Fallon and Steve Higgins last night. I get the basic concept of the game, but I'm confused by how many dice you can take away after each roll. You can take away one die or two dice? Is it any two dice or does it have to add up to three? Any help?

Also: shouldn't they be drinking Old-Fashioneds or Martinis instead of beer?

there are varying rules, depending. most people play that you can take two dice, but only ONCE during your whole turn, which really sucks if you somehow manage to roll all threes, or take a three and a one as the two dice, and then roll two threes the next roll.
that's the way the cookie crumbles, though.

Pretty easy-to-understand dice game. It's kind of like Yahtzee but with that 3=0 thing, and you're only looking for the lowest score, nothing else.

You CAN take two dice per roll, but don't have to. A three is worth zero points toward your final tally, so you'll always want to take that away. And as we saw, if your roll consists of a three and another low number like a one or two, you'll probably want to take two dice away. i wonder where Jon learned this game? Back in the day while attending U of Mo Jon used to come over to my and my roommate's apartment once in a while to play poker and another fun dice game called "Pig."
This now concludes the "before they were stars" portion of the comments section...
